I have a rod holder which is hung from the ceiling. The limiting factor for how many rods you can fit on any rod holder is the reels. This one has the reel end of the rod alternating ends.

Sounds like a great trip. And your timing was perfect missing the tornadoes.

Going to Florida to fish is on my wish list, especially after seeing Bens catches. 8)

What's biting out there?
I'm going out camping at Carlsbad and Doheny during the holiday break. My wife let me pick since it's around my Birthday. Hoping to get my first toothy ctitter on the beach. Previous hookups, back a few years, ended with the line snapping. Since then been using weed wacker line as a rub guard but haven't hooked up.

I couldn't decide yesterday whether to go and make bait for an upcoming trip down to the Soup Kitchen or to hit the beach and try for something bigger. Half way to the beach I decided to make bait since I had the chance with a favorable tide, hitting the bottom of a -1.6, and because I was completely out of Macs. I chose wisely. Picked up a dozen macs in an hour before the sun went down.

I just went to the CFG site and it didn't show any oil spill closures in OC this time. I am assuming they were lifted.
You know where I'll be this weekend. :D

Sounds Cool! I'm going to have to try Long Beach while the OC beached are closed.

Went for a business dinner by the Manhatten Beach Peir last night. I checked out the beach at high tide and was pleasantly surprised to find an abundance of sand crabs. I may have to go there to see if I can make some bait.

To be honest, not long after the spill I went fishing off the jetty at the entrance to Newport harbor to try to make some bait. I was pleasantly surprised to not see any oil on the rocks and no smell.
There was lots of minnows in the water but no mackerel.
There were plenty of other people fishing there as well. Even boats at the end of the jetty trying to make bait.
Later I saw that the area was closed.
I would think they would have signs posted if they really wanted to enforce it.

If you check the website, it says they are testing the water contamination levels now. They didn't expect to open until the end of this month or later.

Glad to see you finally got one.

Isn't fishing still closed south of the Anaheim jetties? I been feeling like a shut-in since my go-to spots in OC have been closed due to the oil spill for so long.

That's a good size batray. I like catching those.
Did you get that on your lure while fishing for halibut? You had a nice streak of halibut going on there too.  8)

Do sevens spawn every three years like soupies?
On a side note, i watched a show from the 1980s where they had thresher sharks inside LA harbor. They said the last time they saw them was in 1972 thru 1973 which was a El Nino period. That would make 16 spawning seasons since 1972 in 2021. Since it was an El Nino period. I'm sure water temps also play a role. I'm ready to start running chum slicks in the harbor to see what I get.
