Never heard of a Tuna Crab. Can you eat them?  hmmmmm....

The first time I ever seen them was in Cabo.  Boats were netting them and I asked the captain, what are they catching them for? His response was soup and crab tails.  I neglected to ask if they were any good, but it bet it is something like a langostino lobster.

That's what they are, lasgostino. Remember when Rubios was getting sued for their "lasgostino" lobster tacos, that they claimed were actual lobster, but were in fact tuna crabs.

Thanks for the intel Mike!  I can see one of those macks are screaming that he's going to be the one that gets a big surf grinner!  I can't wait to see how you do on those super fresh baits!

We'll find out tomorrow if it's me or your horse ;) Either way, it'll be awesome... more awesome if it's me!

Thanks y'all!! It looks like I'm going to be more solos until I get one! Binh is on a day a week schedule until school lets out.

I still have my money on Binh!   :o ;D

I'm gonna frame that $1 bill! I do wanna be his sand hand though when he gets one!

Sounds right. I'd say soupfin if I had to guess.

As Steve said.  That sounds like a classic Soupfin fight there.  Damn... I thought I was going to open this post to see you with a big grinner, but now I have something to look forward to.

Nice session Mike!

Felt like a giant leo on steroids! It was awesome! I think I had the drag too tight. Ended my night at almost 1am. The high tide brought in all the kelp too. Solo seshes are creepy.

Unplanned solo surf sesh. Macks for bait. Stripped the line from my usual surf reels and didn't want to waste any time spooling one up so I gambled and grabbed a 30lb reel. Loaded with 50lb spectra and topped off with 75yds of 40lb. Puts out almost 30lbs of drag, so I figured I was good to go.

Peak low with a soon to be rising tide. Foliage free beach... yes!! Eerily hazy like that movie The Fog. 1st bait gets tossed out... nada for 10mins. 2nd bait goes out and soaks for a few mins then takes off for the tuna grounds! End result was a solid surf bat over 50". No measurement, but caught enough to know, that and my back told me  ;)

3rd bait hits the water. Less than 3mins into it's soak, my reel screams!! Luckily I was wise enough to put on my rod belt before casting out that bait cause my rod butt killed my hip area while fighting that bat.

Now this is where I need you shark list guys to weigh in  since I've never caught the "right kind"'  so whatever I had on zips left then right then comes at me then back out. I'm barely keeping up with it! No real head shakes, but some solid thuds. Saw a big splash with my headlamp through the haze then my line went limp. Whatever it was left me about 30yds away from my stuff wondering what it was.

4th bait was a leo that came unbuttoned in ankle deep water. Looked to be 40" or so. Still fishing.
