Hit the sand lookin for another 7gill.

Conditions were absolutely flawless and I had high hopes.

Fished the incoming from sunset to a few hours after dark.

Sent out some fresh maks.

About an hour in I got picked up.

felt the head shakes so I knew it was the right kind.

Got it too the skinny and got my first look at it.

I was pretty disappointed lol.

Not the right kind but she was nice and feisty.

The 12/0 demon circle did its job. Got her in the corner of the mouth and it came out the side of her face. Very minimal damage and she swam off strong.

That was all I got. I still look at it that I struck out since I did not get the targeted species.

Im out here a few more days so ill be putting in more work.

Today we lost a master sharker/batter to team SD.

He is a member of this forum and I'm sure you SD guys will be meeting/seeing him on the sand soon. 8)

My saltist bg40h just went in today. It took a nasty spill into the sand yesterday. It was way over due for servicing anyway.

Hit the sand at with a cooler full of macs.

Got picked up right at sunset, a decent run that resulted in a dropped bait. Was deffinately a bat.

Got picked up again once it was dark. After a fun fight I put this on the sand

Tape shot didn't come out well but it went 55" with the tape pulled tight across the back.

Pics came out like crap but no biggie, not a PB anyway.

Called it quits at 9pm

Tackle Talk / Re: Crimps, Crimpers and Crimping
« on: February 24, 2015, 08:19:46 AM »
When I first started crimping I wasn't too knowledgable about it.

I picked up a pair of point to cup crimpers, round sleeves and 135lb. 7 strand coated cable.

I found that its just about impossible to keep the wires from crossing when doing a fair to tight loop with the round sleeves.

Did more research and found that the double barrel sleeves would eliminate this problem. Found that cup to cup crimpers would be necessary for the double barrels so picked up those crimpers as well.

Nailed it, found that this is the way to go and im sure most would agree.

I made the switch from 7strand to to AFW's 49 strand. The suff is so much softer and limper. Quality stuff as well.

Ill run the 480lb. in 2 foot leaders or 6 ft. depending if im casting off the ground or wading out casting.

Ive had no issues, caught large bats, leos and a 7gill. Ive put even more pressure on the crimped leaders in the backyard hanging weights from them.

I like AFW's website, when you order wire from them they will tell you what size crimps to get. Other than that, rule of thumb is to get a sleeve that fits snug to your wire.

As far as crimping mono, I don't.. I can tie up to 130 mono so didn't see why  I should crimp it. If you do decide to crimp it, use aluminum sleeves.
