Boating Card
« on: May 11, 2023, 07:17:19 AM »
Looks like it's time to get my card.  Being over 50, I had the luxury of waiting for as long as I did to get the card, but as of 2024 I'll need it.

It'll be a nice refresher anyway as well as another way for the state to collect $40 from me.

Ha!  It's because all the AZ imports here are wanna-be boaters and ruining it for everyone in Cali.  ;D

It’s basically a boating license that you only need in certain instances, ie certain private lake boat rentals. Not sure what the deal is for Tom. I got one early on just in case. Very easy to get, something like a couple hour online class on boating laws and safety. Wish it were required for boating in Newport harbor…

Okay I’m seeing that it’s been getting phased in. I got it around 2018 while I was trying out new lakes in rental boats, and I believe lake Arrowhead required one though I never got up to there. I recall what i said in my last post being true at the time but now vaguely recall that phase-in thing. But now I see how it’s finally pertinent to you Tom. Well I’m glad that is happening and I hope they start checking them, particularly in certain high traffic areas.

You are right a way to extract money from the overtaxed Californians.

Glad I moved, flat 2.5% state income tax.

Bass boat in my near future.

Gonna need a boat driver license test soon due to all the drunk Californians trying to forget they live in the sh!ttest state due to the incompetent Gov't leadership.

Last year was the first time more people left CA, than moved into.

I got mine in early 2022 but I was under the impression that at that time everyone was required to get it. I may have misread the guidelines.

It’s just a money grab and about 6 hours of online courses you can do in 2 or 3.
Keep it tight

That's what it seems, but hopefully 1 in every 10 that take the test will at least be a better boater... at least I hope as the 10% rule goes.

Yep State Income tax is 2.5% and a fishing license is $30 and good for a whole year from the date you buy it.
