The Sasquatch Squat (4/30)
« on: May 01, 2023, 07:48:33 PM »
Planned to look around the Niner with Squatch...  5-6 second period swell prevented that.

We headed to a deepwater zone and literally got waked and cut off to the spot...  Squatch saw it too, but this wouldn't be the first time today.

The Vallela were thick from the bay to the drop off...

We hit small rock pile by small rockpile until we found something to catch.

After a nicer model of Skrilla Fish...

We picked up a few more.  Steve counted 4 at the end of the day, but I cleaned 5, so thankfully we didn't keep our limits and get pulled over by DFG.  (They were out and about)

I was using an absolute stunner of a squid cod rig, while Squatch opted for the dark clown color.   ;D

I got a few deepwater Sculpin and Squatch found the shallow water ones.

There were a lot of Dolphin around.  I'm not sure, but the disappearance of big Bonito seemed to correlate with the dolphin arrival, but that's here nor there since we only caught macks with the passing school.

Steve was having a tough time getting deepwater bites while I was getting the majority of them, but he made a valiant comeback when we got inshore!  He was King Brown Fish on the inside!

We thought Steve hooked a big red, but turned out to be a big green!

We kept 15 and released just as many...

Nothing big, but a lot of fun for a Sunday.  Man, I was hoping to hit the nine, but 5 second swells are tough to drive in.  lol

DFG was pulling boats over checking their catches, and I made a quick counter move to put some space between us.  Not for any reason except that I didn't want to stop for 10 minutes and making a mess of the deck on showing them the fish after Steve just scrubbed it.  It worked, but they weren't short on boats to check anyway.

Great way to spend a Saturday Morning.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

I picked up a bunch of the Squid Squirts but haven't used them yet, looks like they work well :) You guys had a good day despite the rolling water ;)
