Quick Stop on the Way Home
« on: April 03, 2023, 06:42:28 AM »
As I was driving home after fishing, I stopped by the old fossil grounds to give a look see.  I didn't think I would find much since I recently hit up this area, but behold!  It's still kicking out fossils after each rain!

Crabs and Clams, but no shark teeth.

My "Crab" box is filled to the brim, so I need to start prepping what I have to clean up these fossils.  It's still a sight to behold.

Unknown.  My Paleontology Museum buddy says he's collected marine fossils from all over SoCal for the last 25+ years and has never seen these anywhere else before.  Just from knowing the ancient sea levels and fossils from the known past epochs here, It's either Pliocene or Pleistocene (Eocene is another possibility, but might be a stretch).  Basically 12,000 to 5.3 million years old.

Someday someone will find the dungeness crab shells buried in my backyard next to a pile of whitefish pin bones.

It's funny, I just dug out a planter in my yard and found pretty complete crab shells that I buried in there from like 10 years ago!  I don't think those fuggers actually break down!
