Trout Fishing before the New Year (12/31)
« on: December 31, 2021, 05:47:08 PM »
Squatch and I needed to get one last trip in for 2021, but the ocean/Bay was looking terrible.  Last week there was no trout stocked locally, so there was no hope, but in the last few days many of the lakes got a healthy stocking!

We had a terrible time finding fish in the beginning, but had a blast watching the Eagles and Ospreys battle it out for dominance of the lake!

vs

We also got to see some cool natural events throughout the morning, even if it only meant it was raining.   ;D

We made multiple laps around the lake with no luck.  The FF was dead, but we trolled and soaked bait anyway for nothing.

On our way back to the ramp, we made a last minute turn to see if we could catch lightning in a bottle.  Squatch lost a fish on the soak, but I managed to get on board with a skunk busting roughly 14" bass.

The scenery was awesome before the clouds took ove and the temps dropped about 10 degrees.  Just before that and the scenery was unreal!

We finally fond some fish, but there were a few people c*ck blocking the spot.  Actually, there was a ton of room, but there were no fish except in that tiny little spot!  I'm not kidding when Steve and I were perplexed on the amount of fish coming from a 6'x6' spot!

We finally got an opportunity to slide in when they left and totally capitalized.  The only thing was fly-lined worms were the key and nothing else was even remotely getting bit.

Within an hour and we had our limits for two...  with a few double headers..

Before we knew it, we got our limits for two in less than an hour...

Most were 1# models, but I did get a few legit models at 18" and probably doubled the average trout we were catching.

Well, it was a great way to end the 2021 fishing season with both Steve and I ending out the year with some trout for the smoker!

Thanks again for another successful year everyone and here's to a safe and successful 2022!

Cool eagle shot! And a nice bag at the end of the day. Sounds like a nice trip.
