Making bait (10-04-17)
« on: October 03, 2017, 11:04:19 PM »
Last day of vacation. Hit OB pier hoping to score some macks. Tide was on wrong end, but hoped for the best. Shrimp and squish for bait to make bait... Lol!

Pretty dead. Managed 4 macks, a walleye, a 16" wsb, and a handful of salemas. The wsb and salemas were tossed back. Had some pier nachos to fill up on. Pier goons were in force too looking for the grinners.

Super jealous of that WSB!

Is there a trick to catching walleye surfperch?  Mid-pier, closer to shore, etc?

Just out of curiosity, why didn't you keep any Salema's to try for bait???
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

I've tried many times to catch things off of salema and was never successful , even as cut bait fishing for mackerel. Found them in bait tanks on half day trips and they never caught anything.

Good to know.  I've never tried them as bait before and usually just threw them back.

I was mid-pier (20yds from the cafe??), but nothing special was done to catch it. Shrimp catches everything.

Do you know if the salema here are hallucinogenic like the European ones?

Might get me to eat some fish now and then.

Nope. I've eaten them before.

Probably better they aren't. Disappointed, but relieved.
