Bizarro Beach
« on: July 26, 2016, 08:09:07 AM »
Well, not too long ago, we've seen some of the best surf shark fishing around.  All of a sudden.... crickets....

Crazy how things take a change in the blink of an eye.

Is anyone else fishing or doing other types of fishing?  I's even read about micro fishing reports right about now.
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Went and fed my future catfish bait to survey the population.

I go through phases..

I'll get into freshwater bass for a bit.

Then I'll drop that and get into sharks.

Stop doin that for a bit and get into tuna..

Catfish.

Then, you get the idea...

I'll just get into one or the other and rotate around in no particular order.

My thing right now is offshore and throwing swimbaits for bass.

I think I'll be on the jetty this weekend....

One site has at least 3-5 active large carp 2 foot or better, another only one large one spotted perhaps a small one.

Right now tide wise I have bad timing and the constant word is heavy salad in the suds. Perhaps the mid to high 60s are the thermal sweet spot on sharking but now the temps are a bit too warm and it died out again.

I've fished the surf at least 6 times at 5 different locales in the last month for mostly skunks. July has been sh!tty!! Where has all the "big game" gone... the hell if I know!

Hit Malibu last night for a couple of hours from sunset till about 10pm. Tide was all wrong but I knew that was going to be the case. Salad situation was cleared up, a big few drifting long strands of kelp here and there but not an issue. A kid offered me a live 6 inch BSP to use for bait, I was stoked. I was thinking I'll at least hook into a nice leo with this...not to be. Caught two 10" platter size round rays on my squish soaker rod, that I threw in the freezer for future 7gill bait and got a matching set of barbs off them to make my GF a pair of earrings with...I'll have to go with that as my saving grace of the night. And, yeah, the surf  felt void of anything big, I could sense it....I don't know...

Dad and I went out last Wednesday night.  conditions were perfect.  No salad.  He got picked up by a big bat that pulled the hook.  Other than that it was silent  :(

Been hitting the beach with the light gear, seems to be a ton of YFC around right now, but most of them are on the small side.  Also the barracuda are showing but they are really little.  Like Eric, I also go offshore about every 3 weeks.  As a matter of fact I'm gonna chase the yellowtail tomorrow  8)
