Work Night Awakenings (6/7)
« on: June 07, 2016, 06:42:03 AM »
Man, conditions were too good to pass up.  I didn't think I was going to get a chance to get out all week, but last night I texted Steve that I'd do a really short session and meet him half way if he was willing to fish Monday instead of Tuesday.
We hit the surf to some of the calmest conditions I've ever seen in the ocean.  There was giant kelp monsters out there, but very fishable as long as one didn't find your line.

I get the first hit.  It seemed like a big Sevengill from the fight and weight, but I feared I lost him right in the middle of the battle, but realized it was a huge kelp ball that broke free from the line and soon I realized I didn't lose him and she was a Soupie!

Not a bad first fish on the sand!  67" female on Mack Head.

Steve was next to hook up.  Definitely a nicer grade Soupfin and he had him finally into the skinny about 10 yards from victory when the Soupie felt the sand on its belly and took a 50 yard run back out to sea.  Steve couldn't stop him and he busted his line.  What a bummer!

I get a sweet shark bite, but jumped the gun and set the hook too early as the mack head was raked from the skull to the "lack of" meat in the back.

Steve finally gets on the board with one of the bait stealers.

We were ready to pack it in and Steve sets the timer... kiss of death as his line started screaming out!  Squatch did it again in the closing minutes!  WHOOPS!  I spoke too soon, as it busted his line again!

All in all it could have been a 4 fish night, but we only got the one up.  I got home WAY too late and work is going to suck today as it's supposed to be a long one.

Oh well, time to get moving as my boss just rolled into work.

Thanks for reading.

Congrats on a nice Soupie!! We fished 5 rods for 1 missed run last night. Man the waters have been calm and looks like it will be till friday. Watering the garden and off to work. Might hit it again tonight.

My new phone.  I can't believe how clear my new Nexus Phone pics come out at night.  Screw my camera, although I did ask for one for Father's Day.  I don't like using my phone so much as it would be destined to drop in the drink or the sand.
