2/16 TP North 1pm-3pm
« on: February 16, 2016, 07:38:41 PM »
Record heat.

Had to hit up the beach.

The neighbors son has been asking to go fishing with me ever since he saw me loading tackle into the truck.

I made him a promise that day. Now today I was able to deliver 8)

Arrived at 1pm for the incoming tide
Wind never stopped
Water was clean
The cadence of the sets was unrelenting.
No weeds
The washed out beach and built up cobble stone has created massive pools with waves breaking right on the sand at some parts. *Didn't find and halibut laying around
Not your best conditions.

Throwing crack on a c-rig #4 mosquito was unproductive for over an hour.

Finally came across one bite... Walked further up the beach for nada.

Parked the Padawan at the spot with the bite. Fished for another hour.

He was a quick learner. First time surf fishing. First time Spinning Reel.

He insisted on casting with his left. Next time I'll make him switch.

Ended up producing 0 fish. He was still very happy.

No complains.

Kept casting, ever optimistic.  :)

Great kid.

Tight lines! 8)

Good job fulfilling a promise. It seems that the El Nino has had a major effect on fishing our beaches. First the water was too warm, now the large waves have turned the beaches upside down. I usually end up hiking more than fishing at TP just to find that honey hole.
When surf fishing with my kids, I usually hit Moonlight and we are generally successful, but I haven't surf fish in awhile. Been working on the shark/ Ray thing lately.
TP does have a better chance for a halibut.

I love the swell condition reports mixed in with the post!

Great times and good for you taking the neighbor's son out.  Bravo sir!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.
