Hit Bass Pro to look around but not really impressed with what they had ::) Grabbed a few shirts and other Misc. stuff and had a nice lunch. Always nice to sit in this Restaurant 8) Came home and made Fish Tacos out of the rockfish, weekend went by way to fast !

Deep thought or wishful thinking ;D

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / The Cyclops Chop
« on: April 27, 2023, 08:18:26 PM »
Took The Cyclops out of MB on Wednesday to fish La Jolla for Rockfish. The Bay was empty at 6am not a soul to be seen and it was great :)

Got to our first spot and got bit right away, sweet, hoped it wasn't a curse ::)

My buddy Richard got one as well and then we threw a bunch back 8)

Found bait but it wouldn't bite the Sabiki :( It was ok cause we had plenty of squid and shrimp ;)

The sun never showed and the wind picked up at noon to a nasty chop, we kept metering around and scratched a few here and there but nothing big. The water was stained from the Red Tide inside, but outside it was blue. A Calico wanted to play.

Still managed to head back at 20-25 MPH in the choppy slop and hit a few spots before calling it a day at 3pm. Upon returning to Mission Bay, we were still the only boat in town :o Had the whole place to ourselves and the Launch Ramp too 8) 8) Didn't score big, but we got some taco meat ;D Only burned 8 gallons of gas this trip, not too bad.

Ready for the next trip, just hope the sun decides to come out soon.

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Point Loma
« on: April 23, 2023, 09:15:14 PM »
Took The Cyclops to Point Loma on Saturday to look for Sheephead, it was a beautiful day 8)

Got to our spot and dropped down a frozen shrimp, 1 minute into it I sot slammed by something Big :o 3 or 4 solid runs pulling drag like crazy, then dead weight and popped my 25Lb. leader >:(

Made a move since that was the only action there, decided to fish the pipe and landed a couple Gophers (thanks, Tom for the fish ID)

Myles is usually the Hot Stick and lands the first fish but he was not having much luck, but he was comfortable ;D

This was Janie's first trip in open water and she got to use her new rod and reel to feel the fish nibbles. She had a great time until blowing chunks ruined her day ::)

My buddy hooked a Sculpin that had Myles' broken leader in it's mouth, got his swivel and hook back ;D

I scratched a nice Whitefish to at least have some taco meat since we ditched the gophers 8)

The day was still young so we headed int The Bay, it was a SH%T Show to say the least, every sailboat and big Yachts were on the water and had no problem waking us out as we tried to fish for Spotties >:( My buddy got a nice one on a homemade A-Rig  8)

Made it back to the Launch Ramp and had to wait for the Tour Boat to get towed out of the water. All in all, it was a slow but fun day, just not sure Janie is sold on open water fishing, same with Max, weak stomachs will keep them in the Bay from now on I think :(

Thanks for the Radio Chat, Tom, it was a beautiful day out there, I'm going out again on Wednesday if conditions allow ;)

General Board / Weekend Shenanigans
« on: March 26, 2023, 08:20:20 AM »
The rain finally quit up here and it was Aaron's Birthday on the 24th (hard to believe he is 26 :o) so after I finished making some Jerky we headed to the Toy Store ;D Jerky turned out great 8)

Of course Janie saw a Pontoon and had to check it out, she misses the one we had and I got nervous for a second  :o

The place wasn't as crowded as usual for a Saturday but the inventory was back to full stock which was nice to see 8) Those fish that Tom has been hunting in his local ponds relocated to another spot  ;D

Had lunch at the Restaurant, this time as a whole family, this made Janie and I very happy :) :)

She just can't put the camera down, always while I have a mouth full of food ::)

Kid Pic as we leave

On the way home we ended up stopping in Norco, Max wanted a haircut. I got one too and Aaron got a hot shave :)

Only lost about $700 this trip but I did at least get a fillet knife and some seasoning that I liked, oh well, it was a good day with family 8) 8)

See you at The Bat Fight :)

Freshwater Shore Fishing Reports / Mud Hole Holding
« on: March 18, 2023, 09:55:14 PM »
The twins have friends that are twins and they all love to fish their secret spot, a muddy pair of ponds that are full of bass. They fished it a while ago and did pretty good so I was the driver this trip. Good thing for 4wd, my Jeep got us in and thru some steep washed out terrain :o We fished the place for about 3 hours and had fun catching these small guys on purple worms 8)

Pretty cool spot but the rains have muddied the water and destroyed the roads into it, I think after this next storm the Jeep won't even be able to get back there due to the erosion and sink holes :o Hopefully the land owner will fix the access and we can return for more action :)

Ass Rack ll  ;D

We caught about 15 bass and probably lost just as many but it was cool to hang with the kids for a few hours and see them enjoying fishing 8) 8)

Outdoor Activities / Annual Bad Pig Getaway
« on: February 23, 2023, 10:01:11 AM »
The kids were out of school for a week for President's Day so we headed to Lake Skinner since we haven't had the rig out since Thanksgiving :) Bad Pig took us to our favorite camp site and the weather was perfect 8)

Got hooked up to the utilities, set up the satellite dish and leveled up the rig with the tripod :)

Always check your bike tires at home, good thing for spare tubes ;D Is that a banana ??

Janie and Aaron drove their cars up there since they had to work on Tuesday, our site looked like a used car lot ;D

They took a walk and I organized the trailer and covered the couches....we have messy eaters ;D ;D

The kids wanted to fish with Aaron since he was on limited time, so they geared up and off they went.

The water was SUPER low :o but we had fun spending time together. Almost felt like Bat Fight conditions, lots of mud and no fish ::) ;D ;D

There were empty shells and crusty formations everywhere, I thought Tom would surely find a petrified relic in here somewhere 8)

It's not camping if without cooking with the smoker, my favorite pass time :) First night was Tri-Tip, everyone loved it :)

Did my usual walk in the morning to great scenery, 2 miles was enough to sooth the mind and start the day off ;)

Found a new anchor for my boat ;D

I asked the Ranger about the water being so low, he said the Water District owns the lake and they don't give out much info to them about water levels but it went down 8 feet in the last week :o :o

My buddy got the site next to us so we visited and did the bait and wait, just fun to catch up and chat :)

Another round of outdoor cooking, Chicken Breasts for lunch and Pollo Asado and Shrimp Tacos with Lobster Tails to end the day 8) 8)

Max found a Crawdad and decided to keep it for bait, he put it in a wet towel and put it in the shower for safe keeping. Fast forward to 3am and I hear scratching and clicking (forgot all about the visitor in the shower) and all I could think was a critter/mouse was in the trailer somewhere :o :o >:( ::) I woke up and found Mr. Crawdad wide awake in the shower with the drain screen removed.......It's ALIVE !! ;D

The weather was starting to turn so I told Max and Myles they better fish now cause we maybe in for some rain :( They put in the time and effort but I think the water level ruined the bite ::) ::) They did manage a few small bass and some bluegill. Myles even landed some on the Ronco Special ;D

Now it's cold and rain on the way so we watched The Curse of Oak Island while the wind blew, my buddy sat it out and watched his puppy play outside. We did manage one night around the campfire but the incoming weather made our trip a day short, no big deal.

Breakfast Burritos......Ham, Shrimp, Pollo Asado, BBQ Chicken,Eggs and Peppers, then we loaded up and luckily beat the rain. Came home and unpacked and then chilled out by the wood stove with Mongo.

Thanks for reading, be safe out there 8)

Freshwater Shore Fishing Reports / Senior Angler
« on: February 10, 2023, 07:40:56 PM »
My dad wanted me to join him at Lake Wohlford for his Senior Angler's Club Trout Derby on Thursday so we got to the lake at 5:45am to a line of cars at the gate. At 6am we walk up to the booth to get our permits and the guy asks "2 seniors?''  :o WTF.......I guess I look the part these days :o :o Oh well, off to the shore to set up shop. As we roll up, some guy is reeling in a nice trout but it was still dark and I didn't get a chance to get a pic but it was a 2 Lbs. (+ -) After getting my rod set up with freezing hands I snapped a few pics and sat in the truck till the sun peeked over the mountain, it was a bit chilly !

When the sun showed up we checked out baits, I got bumped a couple of times but no cigar ::)

The wind picked up a but and it made casting any distance a real problem. My dad's buddy, Mike showed up and hung out but I couldn't stand the wind anymore. I gave him a carton of Night Crawlers and my dad and I drove over to the Cafe to eat and get warm at 11am.

Of course as soon as we left, he catches a nice one and called it a day ::) All in all it was good to hang out with my dad for a few hours. The bait and wait isn't really the way I like to trout fish but it was better than nothing :) Time to get The Cyclops wet again ;)

General Board / Adios Ass Rack
« on: February 04, 2023, 09:25:27 PM »
Well it was time to send The Ass Rack back to the guy I bought it from (my cousin). I picked it up from him after a trip to Bishop back in 2005. We had lots of fun with the boat and all 3 boys grew up fishing in it with me. All the memories were captured on film and will be great to look back upon but now we have The Cyclops, 25' center console with way more comfort and room. My cousin offered me what I paid him for it plus a couple of nice rod and reel combos so I said come and get it. He showed up this morning from L.A. and off he went.

A few memory pics when Aaron was little :)

The Twins had many trips

Tom even played Cameraman for us 8)

Last trip to San Diego Bay

Last launch

Cousin Danny takes back The Ass Rack

Saying goodbye :( :(

He promised to keep the name ;D

« on: December 31, 2022, 07:05:58 AM »
I found myself at Bass Pro yesterday :o ;D Had nothing else to do so Janie and I took a drive just to look ::) We met some friends for lunch in the restaurant and did some shopping and I think it was the first time we left without breaking the bank ;D I picked up a hoodie for 20 bucks (can't beat that) and also a backup rod/reel combo, mainly as a setup for descending rockfish. Penn Warfare
20lw on a 6'6 Penn rod. Nothing fancy or expensive, just an extra rod to have on the boat, that's all ::)

Happy New Year, be Safe !!!

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Merry Cyclops
« on: December 22, 2022, 07:58:54 PM »
Well the season is winding down and I wanted to get in some Rockfish action before it shuts down ;) Planned on leaving here at 5am but my dad's truck broke down right around the corner from my house so I had to hop in my Jeep and tow him into my yard, that put us almost 40 minutes behind schedule ::) Not to worry, we got to South Shores to a beautiful 45 degrees :o Glad I brought some sweat pants :)

Found a few favorite spots but we were off to a very slow start even though conditions were perfect :( Max had no problem finding Mackerel with the Sabiki :)

We scooted around quite a bit but the damn Sand Dabs were everywhere, which told me we were in the wrong spot :( :( I think the Macs wore out Max ;D

After fishing in the 250 foot spots, we headed in shallow to 120-150 feet and the bite seemed to come together, my dad finally got a player other than Dabs and Macs 8)

After a few drifts and bait thieves, I got slammed and I knew it was good so I yelled for the net from Mr. Sleepy Boy up front :o

We scratched a few more small fish and only one Whitefish and we called it a day at 2:05 PM. I headed back to Mission Bay at 25-30 MPH, 15 minutes we were at the inlet, smooth ride :) Got to the launch ramp to a super low tide :o I put Bad Pig in 4WD just in case ;) Got home a bit after 4 PM  and washed up the gear and The Cyclops and bagged up all the Mackerel for Bat Fight bait :D
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year  8) 8)
