General Board / PT
« on: January 11, 2024, 07:43:36 AM »
PT on my shoulder is going OK I guess ::) Pretty tender still and range of motion isn't 100% (to be expected) but I am seeing progress. Hopefully I will be healed in time for the the 2024 Fishing Season. In the meantime I seem to be finding myself either at Bass Pro, Turners or some local Tackle Shops to get my fix  ;D  Looking forward to The Bat Fight as well, need some new shirts :) Be safe out there, the water is gnarly right now ;)

« on: December 11, 2023, 07:01:42 AM »
Well, I was bored and figured now was a good time to take the Boater's Safety Course, been putting it off for a few years but the time has come. A little education never hurt anyone ;D I started on Saturday evening and finished last night. Nothing terribly hard, just a bit of reading and then answering some questions and then downloading the Certificate. I guess they mail the actual card when they receive add process my info. Be safe out there 8)

Tackle Talk / Free Gear
« on: November 22, 2023, 07:05:13 PM »
So a buddy of mine is a Handyman and he did a job for a lady who's husband passed away, she just gave him all these rods and reels one day after completing the job :o He isn't much into fishing so he tried to sell the stuff on Marketplace for well over 6 months for $550...... no takers ::) A few months ago he gave me the Penn Squidder when I was at his house cause I showed interest in it for a Sabiki Reel 8) Fast forward to a few days ago and he had some firewood he needed to have split so I told him to come over and we would split the wood. It was getting late in the day and he was headed to Mexico for a Baja race so I told him to just dump the wood and we will split it later. He called today and wanted to come over after his last job of the day and split the wood, I said no worries ;) Well I wasn't doing anything so I split the wood while he was on his way over, I'm a nice guy ;D Since he knew I /we fish, he gave me all the Rods and Reels :o :o 8) 8)

Here is the Ad from Marketplace

Took me about 45 minutes to split the wood, easy job with a Log Splitter :)

The reels are in great shape, a few minor scratches but no big deal

One of the rods has some corrosion on the guide, hopefully it can be cleaned ;) Not a bad deal for 45 minutes of wood splitting 8)

General Board / Jeep Stuff
« on: October 27, 2023, 08:59:40 PM »
Weather has been funky so I have been focused on getting the Jeep (Stubby) ready for this coming Desert Season. 1st thing that was costly after it's $4K visit to the shop was new tires, it desperately needed them ???

Next was to get rid of the old stereo, it didn't have Bluetooth. Nothing fancy, just a basic Kenwood 8) Added 2 new speakers to the soundbar as well :)

Other than a cup holder, there isn't an ideal spot for my phone so a rail system and a Ram Mount was ordered from good old Amazon ;D

Since Amazon is so easy, I ordered a Backpack for the spare tire and a Tow Strap, gotta start collecting Recovery Gear now, start with a basic strap ;)

So yesterday I'm out looking at my tires and I see a bolt laying on the axle housing  :o

Threads were jacked up and upon further inspection I see the Track Bar isn't connected .....How does this even happen ??? ??? ::)

Easy fix, just got a new bolt, washer and nut and reinstalled everything 8)

I'm sure there will be more expenses, it's almost 30 years old but I'm up for the challenge :)

General Board / Labs
« on: October 24, 2023, 06:34:57 AM »
Yesterday I had to get Labs drawn for an upcoming Doctor appointment, as I entered the office there was a sing that said NO CONCEALED WEAPONS. I rarely see this sign and I thought it was an odd place to see it. I Guess I went against their rules as I never expected to see it there, still scratching my head :o ::)

Going to see the Surgeon tomorrow about my left shoulder. Had surgery on the right one and have been dealing with the same issues on the left one and putting it off as long as I could, I have now reached my breaking point. I'm sure it will be an Out Patient surgery again, just want to be healed up ASAP cause there are still fish to catch ;D Hope to have some answers tomorrow morning, good thing I'm right handed  ::)

This getting old stuff is overrated  ;D

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Nine Miles of Cheez
« on: October 08, 2023, 07:39:54 PM »
Cheez decided to make the trip from Arizona and surprise me with some custom decals for The Cyclops :o

Had to organize and get set up :)

We had to have some Tri-Tip for dinner the night before fishing ;) Mongo was eyeballing ;D

Up at 4am and out the door at 5am and at the Launch ramp by 6am........FOGGY AS HELL ::) Got to try out the lights  8)

Visibility was zero so good thing for Radar, it got us thru the Bay and out to the 9 Mile Bank. Pretty cool to have that feature ;) We put out a Cedar Plug and some Feathers and trolled around thru some Dolphins for about an hour but no takers :( Got some intel from a buddy and got on a rock pile in 500 feet. First drop and Myles is on 8) 8)

He was Jazzed to say the least  :D

It was non stop action every drop !  A bit of a work out at that depth but not too bad and well worth the effort 8)

Fished till about 1pm and decided to head back in, we had plenty of fish !!  Super calm and flat and The Cyclops cruised back in at 25-30 Mph, making the ride very enjoyable. I think it was the best conditions I have had since buying the boat, Got home about 3:30 pm, washed  the gear and the boat and called it a day :D

The fish were mostly Green Blotched Rockfish, Green Striped Rockfish a couple Chili Peppers and A Mexican Red Rockfish. Cheez took some back to Arizona this morning, I gave some away and vacuum packed the rest :)

Can't wait to do it again soon, thanks for reading.

My Jeep has been in the shop for 2 months cause someone that was supposed to be reliable kinda flaked out so I had to play the waiting game ::) Oh well, I got it back yesterday and I have been driving it around VC. It's not an Escalade , but that's what makes it fun ;D Hope to hit the trails in the Desert soon. Gave it a bath and it looks pretty good 8)

The Cyclops is getting wet this weekend, hope to have a good report ;)

Freshwater Shore Fishing Reports / Trout Scouting in September
« on: September 18, 2023, 09:46:37 AM »
Wanted to get in one last trip to the Sierras before Mother Nature flips a switch, so we organized our gear and loaded The Hearse ;D Just Max and I for this trip, it was 1 spinning and 1 fly rod each and a spare for backup ;)

We hit the road at 5am and headed up the 15 Freeway, my Copilot was great conversation for about 30 minutes ::)

Just under 6 hours, we got to Bishop and had to hit the local canal to get a line wet before we went grocery shopping and arrive at my buddy's house at Crowley :)We weren't there 5 minutes and Max is on the Board 8)

We still had time to kill before heading North so we cruised up the Mountain to have a Look See :D Had to wade a bit to get to the fish, the water was FRIGID :o

We kept a few for the BBQ as well 8)

After catching a a dozen or so, Brookies and Rainbows, it was time to get our groceries and fire up the BBQ :) My Buddy's house was just up the 395 from Bishop and across the Highway from Crowley Lake.

Friday morning we went to Tom's Place for breakfast, the local hang out, then Trout Scouting again :)

Found a spot to park on Lower Rock Creek and walked the water looking for fish. Found some nice holes 8)

Hiking, walking and bushwhacking was the name of the game ;D

All the exercise paid off, we always found fish  :)

Some of the places we fished required Billy Goat skills ;D I left that to Max and he always got his fish ;)

Everywhere up there is flowing water, it is just BEAUTIFUL !

Power Plant fishing was cool, their holding ponds were great

Ran into this guy again :o ;D ;D

Well, time to BBQ some Scooby Snacks before our last dinner and chill out before our drive home on Sunday morning :(

Up early and on the road at 6:30AM and my Copilot is off to a great start  ;D

Nice drive back to reality with no traffic to speak of. Had Lunch at Bass Pro as usual before arriving home to cloudy drizzly weather :o

Long post but had to share, will be back again next year. Now it's time to get some blood on The Cyclops ;D

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Slow Day
« on: September 01, 2023, 08:56:00 PM »
Launched at South Shores at 6am, beautiful morning 8)

Headed to a few waypoints and first stop my dad starts puking :o :o Asked him if he wants to go back and he says no ::) So next drop my buddy gets slammed :o 8)

Meanwhile, I'm catching dink reds and stary's, nothing pic worthy. Dad is still sick and refuses to go in so we press on. He finally starts feeling human and begins to fish and land a few 8)

I lost about 5 lead weights and still no takers for me until about 3pm >:(

We went in shallow and saw these marks but nothing happened

Called it a day at 3:10 pm and left La Jolla and got back to Mission Bay at 3:30 pm. I figured traffic was going to SUCK, but it was smooth sailing all the way home. Probably my last trip for rock fish before the season ends, heading to Bishop / Mammoth in 2 weeks for a few days ;)

The Cyclops will need a bath but not much blood to clean up this trip :(

Have a safe Labor Day Weekend, I will be nowhere near the Launch Ramps  ;D
