Fishing Talk / Record Striper
« on: April 16, 2024, 08:12:08 AM »
I forgot to mention that right before we got to Lake Skinner last week, someone caught the Record Striper..... 33 Pounds. I was talking with one of the local fisherman that keeps his boat there and fishes the lake on a regular basis, he showed me a pic of the fish. The guy that caught it was in a canoe, can you imagine the sleigh ride ? The fish died and wasn't able to be released but I bet there are a few more Monsters in there, it's a good sized lake.

Outdoor Activities / Bad Pig On Spring Break
« on: April 14, 2024, 08:04:14 PM »
Max and Myles were on Spring Break all last week so it was a good time to get Bad Pig and The Rig away for 4 days. Tuesday was hook up and pack day. Mongo knew what was up too.

Got to our spot and set up Shop, they wasted no time heading for the lake !

I took off on my bike to find them, I knew they were close

Yep, here they are

They were on the fish and I was glad, I used a rod for a bit and caught a few, then went to check out the other Boat Ramp and other areas too. The mountains we capped with snow still.

Janie came Thursday morning and joined the adventure, The Hearse and Bad Pig need a bath !

More fishing proved to be very productive, they couldn't miss, bass and trout were on the Chew !!

The average was about 40 fish a day and an appetite was worked up after fishing for a few hours so Chicken Kabobs on the BBQ the first night, then Tri-Tip and Ribs went on the Smoker.

Breakfast Burritos in the morning to fuel all the fishing.

The weather was 86 degrees the first 2 days then cooled off and got cloudy but still relaxing. Janie was enjoying the peace and quiet.

In between fishing there was a few things that needed to be done, like cleaning the windows, oh boy !

It was nice to see the water level was up and it was great to check out all the different beaches.

It was non stop catching and we did save a few, Max gutted and cleaned them at the lake.

The bass were feisty and even found a Bluegill in the mix. These trout were jumpers too

Saturday was only in the 60's, layer up and keep fishing !!

After 150+ fish and clouds getting darker, we called it for the weekend. Got back to the rig just as it started to rain. Watched some TV and Sunday morning we packed up and came home. Hookup Baits  (1/16 Oz.) were the hot ticket this trip, they got destroyed and only lasted about 5 fish before having to switch baits.

Hope this is the end of the rain, The Cyclops needs some action now !!

General Board / Bored on a Saturday

Wasn't much to do since all the rain so we made a last minute decision to have lunch at Bass Pro. The decision was made at 11am and the boys were just crawling out of their room and looked like showers were not going to happen in a timely manner so Janie and I said C-Ya !  We got to Bass Pro about 1pm so the lunch crowd was thinning out at the Restaurant, perfect ! Calamari and Fries hit the spot, time to shop.

I get '' The Look'' every time we walk by this  ::)

Gotta appreciate the artwork in the Bathrooms  :)

After picking up our Fishing Licenses we just did a casual browsing session, not in a hurry for anything and just enjoying the place.

Only dumped a few hundred  bucks this visit so I got off easy, can't complain  :)  Grabbed a few misc. items and made our way home. It was perfect timing as we walked in the house it started raining pretty good.

My Bounty

I hear the new Bass Pro is having a Grand Opening in Irvine next weekend, looks like we will be doing another Lunch Date to check it out, I sure hope this rain is on it's way out as I am ready for some warmer weather with plenty of SUNSHINE !!!

That was fast, March 11Th was 2 years ago we picked up The Cyclops from the Dealer. It was tough waiting for the boat to be built to our Specs. which only took 6 months but it seemed much longer at the time. Looking forward to another great season fishing the local waters with friends and family !

Well, it's been a while since we camped in the desert and the kids wanted to try out their motorcycles before the end of the season. Let's get packing, but first I had to get the rear dual tire fixed, it decides to go flat the day before we leave  >:(  Luckily it was just an O-ring on the valve stem. Bad Pig is showing it's age  ;D

General Board / Bart Hall Del Mar
« on: February 17, 2024, 06:36:12 PM »
Took my Dad to the show at Del Mar today and had a look. It was way smaller than The Long Beach Show and pretty slow I must say ??? Seemed like the Vibe/ Excitement was missing for some reason, maybe cause I just went I guess. Anyways, I picked up a few more shirts and Another reel ;D Got a free shirt with the reel and free line when I take it to Turner's. We made a few laps thru the place and since my Dad is 80, he was wearing out fast and he was ready to call it a day just before noon so we headed home  :)

$12 Shirts  8)

Reel

PCS Show next month  :)

General Board / Time Goes By
« on: February 02, 2024, 09:03:22 AM »
Well, this Pic showed up as a memory on my Timeline and I just couldn't believe it was 18 years ago :o My best friend and I grew up together fishing The Sierras since the early 70's and here we are in 2006 just having a blast.

He past away in 2015 from Cancer but I still cherish the memories we had together as we scouted those mountain streams. The best part is I have taken all 3 of my boys up there since they were born and they have the passion for the area as well 8) 8) 8) We still fish the same area as the Pic and I know my buddy Jim is there with us  :)

Be safe out there in all this rain  ;)

General Board / Project Handrail
« on: January 21, 2024, 06:49:52 PM »
Since I finished the railing around the stairs it was a good day to install the handrail :) After we got home from breakfast in Escondido, I hopped in the Jeep and headed back down the hill to Home Depot to get supplies after a few brainstorms and calculations ;D Slapped the parts together and with a little help from the boys, we managed to get it done 8)

From the bottom going up

Top going down

Be safe out there  :)

Food & Recipe / Patio Ribs
« on: January 20, 2024, 06:43:15 AM »
It's been a while since I busted out the Cast Iron and Max requested some Dutch Oven Ribs for dinner, so I grabbed the 14 incher and got busy. I cut up 2 packs of Baby Backs, seasoned them up and strategically put them in  :)

This Dutch Oven doesn't fit on my stand so I had to put a tray on it to make it work. The stand is made for 12'' and smaller ;) Coals on top and bottom, good to go 8)

Cut up some potatoes and made Fries too :D

Mongo was supervising ;D

A little over an hour and it was Chow Time 8) I managed to get 1, the rest were polished off by the rest of the Clan :o

Looks like rain is on the way, be safe out there !

General Board / Mezzanine
« on: January 15, 2024, 06:34:03 PM »
I finally got around to putting the safety rail around the stairwell opening, it was sketchy walking around up there and moving storage bins around with a hole in the floor :o

Yesterday I installed the 4x4 posts, had to quit as my shoulder could take no more ::)

Today I finished installing the 2x4's and the shoulder is TOAST again :(

Now I just need to install a handrail for the stairs as they are pretty steep  :)

At least my fishing gear is organized :)

I need another rack ::)

Hope everyone had a good 3 day weekend 8)

« on: January 14, 2024, 07:25:00 PM »
Max and Myles hit their Secret Spot today and scratched a few players, I stayed home and worked on my Mezzanine railing 8)

The water looks a bit dirty from the rain but they said they could see bottom ::)

General Board / PT
« on: January 11, 2024, 07:43:36 AM »
PT on my shoulder is going OK I guess ::) Pretty tender still and range of motion isn't 100% (to be expected) but I am seeing progress. Hopefully I will be healed in time for the the 2024 Fishing Season. In the meantime I seem to be finding myself either at Bass Pro, Turners or some local Tackle Shops to get my fix  ;D  Looking forward to The Bat Fight as well, need some new shirts :) Be safe out there, the water is gnarly right now ;)
