Wow!  a 17" is a tanker YFC.  I can't believe your Temu reel is still holding up!

Bravo Jeremy!  That's some really good YFC fishing.

Finally noticed it getting a little gear-y on this session. I bet I could milk it for the rest of the year, but I might shim the drag on my newer Daiwa Laguna 3000 so the drag cam doesn’t move so easily and I will start using that.

You know you'll hook a striper next and it will strip those Temu's gears!  Your leader will stay strong, but the gearing will strip.  lol

This is the first vert I found here, so need to make sure it's a fossil.  I'm suspecting it's an old artifact (hundreds of years old vs thousands/millions).  It doesn't fit into the other fossils of the area.

As for the crabs, I've worked on ID'ing these with some museum people before.  It's an issue, because all of the supporting evidence I gave is well received by them that it's Pliocene in age (5.3 million to 2.6 million years ago).  Only issue they have is none of the other Pliocene sites in San Diego has these crab fossils, but they do have similar ones from the Eocene of San Diego which is 56 to 33.9 million years ago.  Big difference, but since this is a fill site and not actually a deposit site, it's not worth their effort.

They are cool as hell though, but not easy to prep.  It's a lot of work getting that hard ass matrix off the crab.

Nice session for sure, hopefully your line issues are resolved now. It's been years since a Game Warden checked me, glad they are out and about !

Yeah, it was a bummer but hopefully the tide is turning.  I'm just going to be a little more OCD with my leaders and knot tying for now on.  lol

You need to stop listening to Koga and his leader material!  lol

Nicely done Jeremy.  I had in my mind I was going to surf fish this morning, but once again bailed on my initial plans.  I do miss the old school perch/YFC days, although.... the Spotfin are biting really good and with Stripers around, too many options for my old brain.  lol

Haven't seen a spotfin with my own eyes in a long time, although I'm sure they're around.

Haven't touched Koga's AbrazX stuff in a while, not even sure where it is. Should probably find a use for it at some point.

A few 7# up by you apparently with a 9.5# checked in for the derby also.  They're telling people to not even bring in 5#ers as they won't come close.  (Listening to "Let's Talk Hookup" yesterday at the bay fishing)

I've always seen this place from my boat when I was fishing, but never knew it was a resort.  Pretty cool place actually, just very expensive. (Not Disneyland Expensive though... lol)
