0730 launch.
Glassier than anticipated!
A dozen pals on the rockfish grounds, but plenty of room to go around. Set up on the west side of everyone and popped the cherry on my second drop.
Paisan! Not too big but on the board.
Next drop got more of a showcase model.
Thought it was gonna be an all-paisan kind of day but some good reds made a showing!
Was a consistent bite and was thinking I might have more than enough time to get my limit then send a dink down in search of a lingcod. But, the bite peetered out on the count of 9, of course. Really tried to make it work but eventually decided to head to a whitefish spot in shallower.
Whitefish spot turned out to be more of a critter hole. The biggest dab I've ever seen followed by the smallest I'd ever seen, dink vermilions, a squarespot rockfish, and lots of skrilla dinks.
White caps were starting just as I ran out of squid. Only started to get wet in the last few minutes of the ride to the harbor.
I do love groundfishing if just for the variety.
12 Skrillafish, mostly dinks except for 3 eaters
5 Largemouth Paisanos
5 Vermilions
3 Chilipeppers
2 Sand Dabs
1 Sand Bass
1 Square Bear
Might try a couple newly opened deep spots later this week. I wanna use the chilipeppers for ling bait.
