Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Go Big...or Go Home... (6/29)
« on: July 05, 2014, 06:49:08 PM »
I gave myself for a chance at a WSB....   Could it be???

Crap....  This repeated itself twice today.  The culprit.

Not a ghost...  but sort of related being a bat....

I went home without a ghost, but I did get my blood pumping on those two bats.  For a second there, I was fooled.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Firework Bycatch (7/4)
« on: July 05, 2014, 05:03:24 PM »
Steve and I headed out at O' dark thirty on the Fourth of July to beat the crowds.  I got to the beach at 4:15 and Steve was there soon after.
We fished pretty hard when Steve looked to have a nice Leo on the line.  He grabbed the rod, but never got the hook really set into the fish's mouth.  About 2 hours later, I had a screamer!  It was most likely a bat ray from the way it was running, but I too couldn't get the hook set properly in it's mouth.  Damn it!

Finally Steve gets a decent hit, but there was not much fight to it. Funny how a really nice bass like this doesn't have much muscle when fighting our 40# long rods.  :D

Steve and the nice calico to salvage our trip.

The idiot beacons were strong today and we called it quits after having the typical showing of swimmers on our lines.

Happy Fourth everyone.

My buddy is selling his 10' Bass Hound. Includes FF, Trolling Motor & Battery. Has Live well, Running Lights and all equipment required for the boat. Asking $800 or best offer.

Message me and I'll give you Dave's number. Perfect boat for local lakes and bay. He is not tech savvy, so asked if I could get the word out for him.

Thanks.

I've "used" up my fair share of rods.  By the looks of some of your rods, you have too!

No kidding.  Now only if he could finish his blog for the website, I'll be really happy.

So that's where Willis and Josh were fishing!  lol.  I think he gave me some phony location via text, unless he was not fishing with you.

I would have been there, but it has been a crazy 24hrs.  It was fun seeing my buddy off last night though.  Too bad I took all of his money and didn't even feel bad about it.  ;D

I have Thursday off to watch Hannah and take her fishing.  She actually wants to go to the beach, so I might have to set up some rods for us somewhere.  I probably should fish the surf tonight since I do not have to get up early tomorrow.

Food & Recipe / Lobster and more Lobster
« on: June 24, 2014, 07:25:13 AM »
Well after getting some bugs on opening night, I decided to do something other than steaming them... well I guess I did with a little twist.

First things first... pull some fresh veggies from the garden.

The first thing I did was cut and de-vein the tails.
After a fresh rinse and pat dry, I brushed olive oil inside and out of the tails.  I spiced it up with Old Bay, Garlic, Salt and Pepper and added green onion and a lemon wedge.

I poured a little white wine in the bottom of pan to steam the lobster.

I covered with aluminum foil and put it in the smoker grill (no wood chips yet) under a medium heat for about 30 minutes.

Once the meat looked cooked, I uncovered the pan and threw wet applewood on the coals and let it smoke for about 10 minutes before pulling it off the grill.

just the right amount of SMOKE!  Yumm!

The next day I was ready for a lunch-time lobster roll.

I steamed a tail and cut it up into big chunks and added a little salt and pepper.
I made and mixed it with a white sauce and pico de gallo for a little change.
Cut a hard roll and put in aged swiss and fresh green lettuce and VOILA!  It was as awesome as it looks in the pic!

Now I need some more lobster!  :P

I had to put bird netting up because the little sparrows were eating my seedlings.  It's all starting to take off though.

Sweet Basil just waiting for the tomatoes to be ripe.

Cilantro and Strawberry.

Upper Row Tomatoes.

Carrots, peppers, Sweet potato, Beans....

and once again, I over crowded the garden...

-Banana Peppers...  Just the name makes me want to rip them out of the ground)
-Sweet Red Peppers.
-Carrots.
-Four types of tomato.
-Spaghetti squash
-Little Neck Yellow Squash
-Eggplant
-Zucchini
-Japanese Cucumbers
-Pickles
-Sweet Potato
-Bush Beans

...and some unknown seeds I saw my daughter plant.

I can't wait to start harvesting!

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Old Salts on the Big Bay (4/27)
« on: June 24, 2014, 07:11:22 AM »
Old school morning trip today.  I took Dave and Roger out on the big bay looking for corvina.  Roger and Dave are a late start crowd, but we haggled the time down to at least 7am.
Here they come...

I knew we made a good choice to stay off the ocean as all the SD 1/2 day boats were fishing the bay with me.

Good Flatty action today with the biggest being 20".

Dave got the first two vina on deck...

We picked up a half a dozen silver on the hard baits in no time.

Also, the bay is paved with 10"-15" Lizards!

I totally lost count on these guys... but we had some decent action back there today with a half dozen vina, half dozen flatties, a dozen + assorted bass with one legal in the mix...  and a bunch of trash fish.  Oh, there was also a decent mackerel bite going on too.

Another fabulous day in America's Finest City...

Thanks for reading.

Saltwater Personal Craft Fishing Reports / Kayaking Squatch
« on: June 24, 2014, 07:08:20 AM »
Caught something worth taking a picture of on  the kayak. Worked hard for it. Looked bigger in person.

Launched from O'side Harbor, paddled out to the artificial reefs and went from one to the next. Saw some bait scatter and I threw the megabait at it. Got bumped once, paused it, started reeling and I was on. Pretty good fight on 8# test. Not much else happening for me.

I did run across a school of bait, all layed out in a line, boiling like crazy. Probably 300 yds long. Cast at it, trolled along both sides, then what the heck, right down the middle. Didn't seem to bother the bait, nothing else seemed to be bothering it either. Think it was just happy bait.
