A Neat Find 1/15/17
« on: January 16, 2017, 12:12:28 PM »
Made plans to fish with Tom and Dave at a local beach. Trying to get a session in before the surf ramps up and the storms roll through again.

I arrived a little earlier than they did, as is my custom, and did a little beach recon. Minus tides are great for seeing where the reef is hungriest.

After selecting a spot to plant my spike, I put a bait out. With nobody to talk to a occupied my time wandering around back and forth looking at stuff.

Tom mocks me for this when we fish trout, but I find a bunch of tackle that is almost usable, and lead that someday might get melted down.

Today was a little different. I looked down to see what appeared to be a 1oz pyramid sinker. Quite a score in my book, but I was mistaken, it was no sinker.

When I picked it up I discovered it was a fossilized shark tooth. Some erosion as would be expected from the sand and surf, but basically complete and intact.

Tom says it is from a Great White, and I have no reason to doubt him. Unless it is part of a long term plot to lowball me.

Not huge, a quarter would cover it, but still pretty cool. Well, based on Tom's reaction and attempts to get me to part with it, more like super amazing cool. Certainly better than Binh's underwear I found not so long ago.

The night continued on, Dave lost a rig. And got a screaming rip and drop that got us pumped for awhile.

I got a quick run that turned into a small leopard.

That was it as far as shark action was concerned. We split around 9 after I lost my rig on my final cast. Ugh.

Pretty sure I will still be mocked for my habit of finding useless junk, but maybe not as brutally as before.

Definitely better than another pair of drawers.

Say it was from a juvenile Megladon.  ;)

Very cool and nicely intact... 8) I at times "suffer" from no bites/ ADD and find little trinkets on the beach as well... best thing so far has been a 18# wedding band

Great find. Best thing I ever found was the LC I snapped off on a cast that washed back to the beach 10 mins after I lost it.

But Tom, don't have buckets of these from your trips to the hills?

Beach finds are from a different age. Much harder to come by.  8)
