OK, I was out for a funeral but I did have a very small amount of time to get out looking for some freshwater fish. I "Borrowed" some Walmart gear from my parents neighbors house who were not up that week. It was tough to even try and find any gear worth using, but I managed to find some old used plastics from my last trip up there about 3 years ago.
The gear was really crappy stuff and I re-filled it with the only line available... cheap eagle claw 6#... YIKES! I had 2 rods/reels and neither was better than the other.
The way to the ponds...
I actually had 15 minutes on one afternoon and caught a 12" largemouth. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera, but it was not much of a bass, but at least a first on a windy day.
I hit my old stand by spot for a nice 16" bass from under the slop.
I moved a few places to find a lot of bass, but not many takers. they were apparently caught before...
I was working some wooded shoreline to find some deer.
and nasty wasps....
I managed a few lost fish and got another quality Pocono Bass.
I got back to the car to see a dozen more deer, but only got a shot of one.
I got some time and went again to see a 3 foot bass! I soon realized it was a 3' carp and not a bass, but a few bass rolled through and I hit the deck so they didn't see me. It was a 3# male following a 6# female. The female was not full of eggs and it was not spawning season, but the male was very aggressive just like the spawn. I cast at the female and ripped the bait away from the male about 6 times before just deciding to let him eat it and get him out of the way.
Finally my last creature bait was stolen on a big hit and I was done with the bass apparently... Only the small pickerel showed after that.
I ended up with 5 bass to 18", a pickerel at only a small 15" and a few bluegill that I cheated with cut worm but didn't have my camera handy for a species count. I only got to fish a total of 2.5 hours, so I made the most of my time when I was only there to pay my respects to my grandfather's passing. Next time I am there, I will make sure I lay the wood to those Pocono Bass!
Thanks for reading and It was a nice change of pace. I woke up to mid to low 40's all week! It was pretty sweet!
