I had no desire to go out on the lobster opener, but wanted to get out and have a relaxing evening of fishing. It was Jennings "New Moon" fishing night, so the lake was open until 10pm.
I got the boat on the lake around 4:00 and just immediately went out and set up in my favorite little cat hole.
Skies looked a little ominous.
I also was doing some Red Ear fishing and thought I hooked a bass on my bobber and worm. Turns out to be a 2# class RE Sunfish! Unfortunately, 2# test trout gear couldn't whoop him and he took me into the sticks and busted my line. Bobber, hook and fish GONE!
I finally got a daylight catfish bite and was on the board!
Well, soon as it got dark, the cats literally were everywhere! Double headers almost every cast (2-rod stamp). I had my limit by 7:45 and started to upgrade the next 2 hours. Ended up with 22 Channels, 2 Blues and a big yellow bullhead.
Big Yellow Bullhead
I had some screaming bites on the mack heads and some came back just crushed!
I get back to the ramp and someone pops up onto the dock and says "Tom?" No Chit! It turns out to be Matt from the OC (or LA, I can't remember). It seems he had part of his bachelor party out on the lake and he remembered me talking about Jennings, so they came out to do a little fishing. What a surprise! They limited on cats also!
My upgrading worked pretty good as I turned in a limit of 3.5-5.5 pound cats.
Big cat was 5# 6oz and 24" long. Not enough to knock Eric off the Catfish Leaderboard, but there is still time I think. lol
