Freshwater Boat Fishing Reports / B-day/V-day/P-day 2016
« on: February 15, 2016, 09:00:08 PM »
Well it was an eventful 3 day weekend. My girls bday on sat, valentine's day on Sunday, and presidents day today. Well my auntie and uncle needed a house sitter since they were goin to the desert for the holiday. And since I didn't have any real plans ;)

Plan was to leave Friday night, plans changed and we got there round noon on sat and started slayin after we dropped our stuff up at the house! Bite was your typical 85° mid February bite B) reaction baits out in 20ft and plastics up tight to shore. Caught 30 easily probably 40 by 5pm. All red lipped clones with alot of fight in em.

This was the main objective, to feed my lady like a redneck queen!

Mission accomplished

She was stoked, never had bluegill tacos, now she wants em again already!

Woke up earlier than her, left her a note to holler for me when she woke up and I'd make her breakfast. Got a couple over a dozen in the 2 hrs I had to myself on the agua b4 i had to go be chef rasta for the misses ;)

Probably the biggest of the weekend pushing 5lbs, nothin huge this trip but lots of quantity!

Few fish after that I hear my girl callin me back up to the house for breakfast. Made some burritos :) she's easy to please, gotta love that in a woman!

The bite was on as soon as we got back on the boat, she even got a few between beers and tanning lmfao!

Basskini B)

Pirate bass

Gear whore shot

We slayed em til 530 and went up to pack but ended up drinkin too much and had to stay another night ;)

Make shift dinner

Started this mornin off like yesterday, on the water while she slept her hangover off B)

She got up after I got a dozen on the boat, she wanted to chill and lay out and drink while I ripped lips!

It was blazin out there today easily the hottest I've ever beenin February. Got miserable hot, over 90 probably and no breeze, round 2 and we were drained from the past 2 nights, stuck em til 3 and said our goodbyes

Helluva weekend couldn't think of a better way to spend it, good beer, great fishin, and excellent company. Blessed is an understatement!

Freshwater Boat Fishing Reports / Goin out with a Bang!
« on: December 30, 2015, 03:26:40 PM »
Had the pleasure of having The Vu's and Mr. John aka Jkim join me for some wintertime cold water bassin few weeks ago. They are some of the coolest and down to earth pure fishermen I've ever shared the agua with.

Day started out round 130 when they met me at my aunts front gate and followed me down the dusty dirt road to bass fishing heaven! I dropped the misses up at aunties and told the guys I'd be right down to the dock for some slayage! By the time I got there phong and John already had some nice chunky northerns on the board so Nicky and I told them to take a boat and we'd show em where the big girls were ;) Nicky of course had to stick one as I was loading my sh!t into the boat!

Then his pops tried to get the last one b4 we got in the boat, but Nicky wouldn't be out done!

Headed out to a point and started workin the rocks n ledges for a few chunks and phong strikes 1st with a toad on dropshot!

Solid 6.5lbs.

So we fished a lil harder and got a few clones. then I decided it was time to start gettin serious, I wasn't gonna be out done on my own lake!!!

So after Nicky sticks a good one on a beaver tail

I put the Senko away and grabbed a creature bait since I knew with the recent rains that the forage wasn't gonna be fish so I figured crustaceans ;) out came the magic Ika. I finished off my 2nd sculpin and gave a offering of my next one and sent some sweet smoke up in the air. I managed to hook 3 clones but I wanted their grandma. so I slowed waaaay down and deadstickin my bait to the point of seriously moving it 3-6ins every 30 secs or so. After about 3 cast of this methodical retrieve half way to the boat I got to drag my ika and it gets obliterated! Line moving left very quickly and when I swung on her my quantum exo PT got its 1st serious bendo of its young life! 20lb braid zingin off the reel and all 10 ball bearings were gettin broken in properly. She was big! -Nicky good one Mr.Josh? -me yeah she's big nick! get the boat cleared! He scurried around moving rods and back packs. -Nicky, where is she? She hasn't come up yet and that's usually a sign that it's a donkey! -me she's beastin on me nick! Here she comes! Her phat ass couldn't even get her whole self outta the freezing h2o! Giant Mr.Josh! Holy sh!t nick she's a phatty don't force the lip jus get her when she's ready! He's never seen a bass this big in person so he's just as stoked as I am! She came up next to the boat 4 times b4 he could get his lil hands on her and barely could lift her out himself one handed he was so astounded! He'll yeah Nicky that's what I'm talking about! He handed her to me and took some awesome pics!

Took a few vids of the weight and release and she swam off after a few secs of reviving. I thanked the fish gods and finished my sculpin and watched Nicky catch a few more b4 I threw back out.

John and phong were getting into some deep water dropshot fish b4 the sun dipped behind the hills and the Topwater started to pop! John was gettin schooled by phong with his new vixen stick bait that he got at least a dozen on, in 47deg water btw... Nicky wanted in on the action so we motored over there and he got a few and a giant crappie!

Kids a monster! And probably the most polite and humble kid I've ever met let alone fished with.

We headed back to the dock pretty satisfied with the trip. but Nicky couldn't stop fishin and it paid off with his new PB!

Solid 7lbs but the kid makes it look over 10 lol

We packed it up after that and I took em to the Eagles nest on the way up to get my girl from aunties.

We said our goodbyes and thanked my auntie and uncle for letting us harass the beautiful bass. At the gate they thanked me for the trip and I thanked them for the company. Sweet way to wrap up an epic year at my favorite place on this rock flying around space we call earth!

Freshwater Shore Fishing Reports / House-sittin'/dock stickin' 10/17+18
« on: October 20, 2015, 08:48:06 PM »
Went out to my aunties house to check on her cats and dogs while she was in Cabo on vacation b4 duck season starts next weekend. Got out to her property lil b4 4 on sat and as we were cruisin down the dirt road I see this big buck jus creepin with easily 8 doe in his harem.

Get up to her house and put the food and beers away and toss a few brews in the cooler for the dock. Feed the cats and dogs and head down to see if the fish are hungry ;)

They were! Hammered the 2-3 pounders for a solid 2.5hrs non stop on flukes and senkos on a reaction retrieve. twitching and flickin in the upper water column and on the surface when they would ball the shad up on top.

My chick got hungry and we ran outta beer round 7 so we went up to the house to make some beer bathed brats and chill in the abyss of the east county outskirts B)

washed up to cook and noticed the damage the bass did on my thumb

No real monsters jus alota scrappy 2-3lb chunky clones. Drank too much and had too good a time sat night to do a rainy morning sesh sunday. so I watched some football and waited the weather out til round 330 and we went back down to see if the fish wanted to play again.

They did but the bite was definitely slower than the day b4. But the slower bite was high lighted by a pig and a donkey B)

Skinny Swine

Phat A$$

She pretty much put me outta commission for the rest of the evening but it was all good I did some work and got too many fish for one weekend apparently ;)

Rolled back down the dusty dirt road to go grub and head home back to reality :/

Not a bad lil staycation, nice to get away and only be 25mins from home :)

Freshwater Shore Fishing Reports / Labor Day Devastation
« on: September 09, 2015, 04:20:02 PM »
Went out on Saturday evening to watch the UFC fights with my auntie and uncle b4 they go to Reno this week. Brought the rods along ;) since we'd be waiting for my auntie at the dock to get the last fisherman off the lake for the night. caught a few dozen in the last 2hrs of her shift between beers and smoke breaks anyway ;)

Action shot my uncle took

No big fish jus a buncha 2-3# clones fun stuff none the less.

Fast forward to labor day, get to the dock round 330 and have some bbq with my auntie and uncle while they have some drinks and chit chat with Tinkerbell and their other guests. I devour my tacos and get to work. Stick a good 3#r right away and proceed to put on a clinic on the flylined Senko! Nearly every cast or pitch would get slammed within 30-40 secs of free fall. If that didnt get hit a few cranks on the reel or twitches of the rod would almost certainly provoke a strike. After a dozen and a half fish on the Senko I grabbed a smoke and a smoke colored phat Ika and made a long cast towards some bait that popped up lil ways from the dock. As my bait hit the water a few bass boiled half way between the dock and my cast, so I cranked the Ika in at a fast crank and let it fall a few feet passed the boils. As it sank I suddenly feel it stop and my line jumps, I wait a second to make sure it got it and as my line tightens up I swing for the fences! Instant drag rippin as my rod is bent in half! I can feel some good head shake as more 20# braid zings off the reel almost at will. Good one babe? I hear Tinkerbell walking towards my finger on the dock. I jump into a boat for a lil better grabbin position as the fish starts to rise up the water column. As soon as she came up near the surface 20ft away from the boat I can see a nice sized goldish green flash in the murky agua b4 she went almost completely airborne. Oh sh!t! Biggin babe! Good good one! She bulldogs me under the boat then around the side and under the dock lookin for a cable or wire to wrap me up in. Get her back out from under everything and she goes aerial again trying to throw the hook. After a couple more half jump head shakes my thumb met her lip and she was getting photographed ;)

Beautiful Dark Green Phatty

Thick Shouldered Beast

Took a lil break and went up to my aunties house for more sculpins and tacos. Couple hrs later while the ladies ate some cheese cake and had some mixed drinks, my uncle his buddy Jim and I snuck down to the dock with some sculpins and I showed em how to catch em in the darkness B)

Couldn't think of a better way to spend a holiday weekend good company, good food, good beer, oh yeah and the fishin wasn't bad either B)

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Marathon Day with 2 PBs
« on: September 02, 2015, 08:51:16 AM »
Hit it long and hard yesterday. Started out at crystal pier at 1130AM, saw some mini macks in a few buckets and fished til 2PM and made bout 2 dozen baits. Headed over to Troy Boys lifeguard patrol zone round 230 and soaked a few older baits while I waited for his shift to end. Pretty slow in the bay til I finally get a bite to stick on an Uber fresh mack tail. Scrappy lil 30" bat was subdued and scared a few swimmers outta the swim zone ;) that was it til Troys shift ended and we headed to the surf.

Get to the surf right at dark and we can tell it's weedy and only gonna get worse with the rising tide. Give it a shot anyway and on my 1st cast within 2mins I'm bendo! Weird fight Lotta head shake and dead weight, lil Leo covered in weeds? Wiggles? Hali? Nope big fat grumpy checkered bass! Ate a whole 8" mack!

Stoked on my new PB calico, I bomb another mack out and  within 5 mins we both get devoured by kelp monsters and decide it's not gonna get any better tonight. So we make the decision to haul ass over to MB to soak in the calmness of the bay.

Made the right move but it was pretty weedy and kelpy there too but much more manageable. We start getting baits chewed within 10mins, but nothing that will commit til I bomb out an older bait. After i casted I poured an offering in the agua for the fish gods and sent up a smoke signal. As I exhaled I see my glow stick wiggle then my 14'r loads up and starts screaming! Get to it and get it outta the rod holder and lay into a legit bat! Battled her for a good 7-8 mins and Troy got his 1st shot to sand hand a big bat. He lucked out as she was whipped and swam into a floating kelp patty and flipped upside-down and was already debarbed.

Legit 45"r

Now It was Troys turn, he kept getting small bites and a few slow short runs but we stuck it out. He gets picked up bout an hr after I landed my fish but the bat never had the hook in it. We give it one more soak and literally as he's bout to say phuq it I'm over it, he goes straight bendo and is on a donkey!

Thought he was gonna get spooled on the initial run, this is his 1st legit bat so he didn't have his drag cranked too tight, after a blistering run he gets her turned and went to work battling this mud marlin. Back and forth they went and he finally got her close enough to see she was an absolute tank! I guided him through the landing dance and got her dragged up the mud!

Beasty Bat!

Jus shy of 48"

Called it a night after that I was beat and troy was supposed to have left at 1245 and it was now 2AM! Helluva long day but worth it to take a shot at a hammer, catch a new PB and see Troy get his 1st legit Bat and break in his new surf set up on a monster bat and have the reassurance that it'll handle a beast!

I'll be back in the surf b4 the end of the week, but it seems like the low tide is the time to avoid the salad.

Freshwater Shore Fishing Reports / Dock destruction 8/30/15
« on: August 31, 2015, 08:10:39 PM »
Needed to get outta the pad after being held captive in the AC  all day Saturday... Got to the lake at the right time ;) they were blowin up all around the dock the whole time I was there! They were super keyed in on the bait but wouldn't commit to a TW or jerk bait... wacky rig was $ though! They inhaled it after letting it sink for a few feet and a slow steady crank in with a stop or twitch thrown in. Wfo stupid fun! With some bigger fish thrown in the mix of 2-3# scrappy green backs! It was so stupid wide open my chick started filming me after my 8th straight fish! Left em bitin when the fire ants came out lookin for my girls beef jerky, the insects out there are beginning to reach plague like levels, but the green bugs that swarm the dock seem to be what's makin the shad school on the surface and cause the bass to eat with wreckless abandon!

Didn't take a ton of pics as I couldn't wait to get back into the chaos! But here's a few of the better fish!

1st 5lbr of the day B)

Chunky dark thick fish

Solid phatty pushing 6lbs

Down sized bait lmfao!

Phatty of the sesh pushing 7lbs, coulda been phatter, but boiling on bait burns calories I guess... still a beautiful fish jus not obese like many of the smaller fish... maybe a big male?

They almost chewed my thumb off ;P

Not really that bad lmfao it's been worse B)

Well that was fun! I'll be doin that again b4 the week ends!  But I'll be in the surf tomorrow lookin for a hammer!

Lil clip of a scrappy greenie during the chaos! Sorry it's not a donkey my chick was having issues getting the video to focus during the melee :/ so to be continued ;)

had a long work week and had to send my 15yr old cat chubbs to the next life on Thursday :'( after getting hammered Friday night, I slept Saturday afternoon away after I got off work... so had to do a Sunday evening recuperation sesh with Tinkerbell to get my head right B)

On the lake round 430, head to a spot I did some damage at with my cousin last Sunday. 1st cast I get bit and hook up as Tinkerbell does the same. Good sign couple 2#rs and we fish the spot for another 20mins for nada... 1st cast curse?  Nope she gets 2 more clones after I farm a good one. Fish for another 10 without a bite so we move spots. I was surprised there were actually 2 boats still on the agua when we rolled up, cruise past both boats and head to another spot my cousin and I got fish at last week and sure enough they were still there. Tinkerbell hooks up 1st, with the shrubbery on the shore line lol! As I retie her rig I hand her my rod and sure enough she gets bit and hooks a nice 4.5# chunker :/

Well she's on top so I quickly give her back her rod and get back into the zone since I gotta dethrone her B)  we get into a nice pick of 2-3#rs on 5" senkos and I decide to break out the 7" and go big for a biggin. After weeding out a few clones on the big worm she gets 3 more 3#rs on the 5" and Im starting to rethink my strategy... I stick with it despite her catchin more fish, I just wanted that one big bite. I make a long cast towards a rock clearing on the grassy shore line, as my bait slaps the water 30-40 small shad all jump from the splash. I knew I was gonna get bit, but I just let it sink and do its Senko magic B) as I'm finishing my burrito I take a bite and see my line jump and then start goin towards open water. I jump up drop my food and swing for the fences! Instant rod double overage, drag rippin, ten # floro singing in the breeze! Biggin! Babe! Giant! I can't complete a sentence as this fish is bulldoggin me into deep water lookin for something to wrap me up in. She would come up but never out of the water all I could see were huge swirls from her shaking her huge head and thumpin her tail subsurface. Holy sh!t babe she's big big! Oh phuq not the anchor rope! as she B-lined for it I managed to turn her and she goes under the boat and turns back to open water and finally lifts her bucket mouth outta the agua and I get my 1st good look at the monster! Daaaayum! Holy sh!t! She's as big as I thought! She proceeds to go aerial several times, back flopping and rolling, too fat to get completely outta the agua! She finally gives me one last head shake and I get my hand on her giant lip!

Str8 up fatty!

Shoulder shot B)

Had to get some shots of my girl with her, jus for perspective ;)

The $ $hot!

Sent her back home, jus chilled for a few, finished my beer, sent up a smoke signal and threw my burrito into the bushes ;) rigged my girl up a 7" and she went looking for a monster of her own B) it wasn't meant to be though as she couldn't get the 2-3#rs to stay off the big bait, but she had fun anyway, even if she doesn't look like it B)

She got another 4 fish b4 I got back in the agua and got another decent 4# fish.

As the chase boat fires up the fish started boiling off the rocks right in front of the boat and we picked off a few b4 we had to pack up and go say our goodbyes and thank yous to my auntie and uncle ;)

After a beer at their house we headed for the hood and found a few giant arachnids cruising the dirt road in the dark 8)

Closed the gates and over the hills we went another epic barrett trip in the books, jus me and my girl, some greenery, cold sculpins and big bass what else does a man need? A cold sculpin on tap to ice down my bass hand :D

Went back to the pier with willis monday to make bait and then tried to fish the surf only to find Thursdays AO way too kelpy to get a bait to hold for more than 5 mins... hit the bay for a bunch of short bites and bait stealers on the ubber fresh macks. But went home with 15 or so baits a piece so not a total bust.

Rolled out yesterday with my girl round 545 and got outta traffic and on the island round 620 :/ island wasn't too packed, few campers and people attempting to fish... set up in a decent spot down a few yds from where I usually soak and got the primo baits in and got a call from Troy that he was gonna stop by on his way home from de anza but he had to bounce quickly to do daddy dutys. Good chatting with u brah. Unfortunately when he showed up so did a phat prego -1 serving platter ray, probably 14-15" which is pretty big for those lil sh!t heads... he bounced round 8ish and few mins later I got a lil drag ripper that need up being a lil dinner plate bat. So I'm back to 0, not bad not great, round 830 I told my chick we'd stay til the fireworks went off and call it. 20 mins later I look up the time for the fireworks and it turns out they weren't til 10 but I had bait and beer and she was down to chill, as I put my phone back in my pocket I get hammered and hook up to a decent fish that made a good 1st run, get her turned and she B-lines into the Grass and its a stale mate until I think I get her outta the weeds only to reel in this massive cluster of squishy bullsh!t weeds.

That pissed me off a lil bit but with how high the tide was, what I could do... get some ice cream B)

Rebaited and casted back out. got a few heads chewed b4 it was almost time to pack up and the last big eye was bled dry. Told her one more bait as 945 rolled around and within 5 mins the Franken-Rod was screaming solid 1st run, get her turned and she's running parallel to shore for a bit, tide was goin out so I had a bit more shallow water to work with and initially thought I had a decent bat but turned out being a good sized feisty butterfly.

Fireworks went off as I let her go, called it a night after the show since my girl hadn't eaten yet and we both needed to get to bed b4 midnight. Split some Pollo asada fries and rolled tacos and hit the hay. Not a bad way to finish off a Tuesday.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Thursday surf soakin (7/23)
« on: July 24, 2015, 09:54:14 PM »
Had the itch for a while but the storm kept me outta the surf til Thursday. And the mods don't like anyone else's company so willis and I rolled down to the pier Thursday round 545 to see if the bonita were bitin so we could soak some primo baits round sunset. Maid 3 bonita and a phat mack between us when we could poach a spot on the good side when the flurries happened, hot bait was the LC which produced 2 bonies at a time during the best flurries, and the bubble & feather that would almost always get slammed when they were eating. Willis got 3 bonies on CRig Rapala and I got the mack on a sabiki. Got to the sand round 745 as the sunset a  few mins later. 2nd 20 min soak in I get a slack line bite and reel in a wiggler on a fresh mack tail I soaked twice.

Hooked in the tounge and she leaked like a sink but swam away strong and fast.

2 soaks later willis hooks up to a freight train on a chunk of bonita. Screamed off 80yrds in bout 2 mins b4 the hook popped, came back with a blunt tip... most likely a bat hooked in the mouth plate. He was pissed for a few mins, never under stand how it happens but it does... what can u do. Keep at it.

Maybe 30mins later I get bit on a mack chunk and have a screamer on for maybe 30-40 secs b4 same $h!t hook pulls and I think the new braid I jus spooled on my new coronado buried into itself on the initial run. And I wasn't sure how tight my drag actually was as that was the 1st fish I'd hooked on it. Made a few adjustments to the drag and hucked a phat bonita chunk out and within 10mins I'm bit again. Straight freight train run pretty much put the guessing out and 5-6 mins later I had a decent bat on the hard pack.

We gave it one more soak after that and both got chewed up but nothing stuck. Not a terrible night but left me wanting a grinner. We'll be back out there on monday, hopefully with fresh bait again, talks of a yellowtail landed and dodos being hooked on weds were all the buzz on the pier, so a few live macks soakin from the pier wouldn't be a bad idea, while waitin for swimmers to leave b4 prime time from the sand. The crowds are only gonna get worse when the heat finally kicks up, but the fish are active, every bait we sent out got chewed up or was gone when retrieved.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Triple Duty Tuesday 6/16
« on: June 17, 2015, 09:18:27 PM »
Well I had the day off so I attempted to take my cousin perchin in the mornin. My dumb ass decided on MB to stay close to his pad, only got one between us in the limited tourist/salad free agua we could fish. But there were perfect sized SC's and those came in handy at session #2.

Session #2 was the lil bay with Dave WMB and Rammer. I get there just as they're setting up and get the 10ftr Macked and bombed, and pin on 2 lil sc's to my perch rod. 10mins later I'm bit on the sc rod and it's a bigger bite at that, thought it was a lil bat but ended up being a nice shovel!

Not bad for 8lb test on the perch noodle B)

As Daves wrangling it in for me his rod goes off and he tells Rammer to grab it, bad idea, it was a donkey!  Thought it was his entry to the 50" club but ended up being a giant Diamond!

Almost 40" and had a straight up spear on it!

That drew a crowd including the lifeguard who ended up being a fellow fisherman. We shot the sh!t with him and he was a super cool dude named Troy. He was somewhat shocked at the monsters lurking in his patrol area. Dave gets on the board with a diamond of his own b4 Rammer gets a 30" bat and I got a decent sh!t shark on 2 more sc's on the noodle rod. Went pretty quiet b4 we headed out to the surf round 7ish.

Get to the surf and it's weedy but fishable, nothin for the 1st hr. I get a tap tap tap, get the rod outta the holder and swing and reel up an empty rig, as in nothing but braid... wtf? So I re rig but the weeds were just too thick and end up busting off on a 100+# stringer right in the wash but was able to rescue the rig and jus said f@ck it I'm jus gonna chill since it didn't seem like it was gonna let up and we were planning on leaving soon anyway. Just as I break off a dude shows up with some yellowtail rods, it turned out to be Troy the lifeguard from MB! Somehow he hunted us down after his shift ended. Maybe all the fishin stickers on my truck or the fact he saw my 14ftr hanging out the rod holders mounted in my truck bed as we left the bay... he was cool shot the sh!t and drank beers with us. Dfg showed up and checked us out and went on his way. The surf only produced  3 bait robbing rig mangling eels for dave and Rammer.

Not the best night, seems like all the big critters were at the other spots last night... oh well still a good time with good peeps and good beers ;)

Freshwater Boat Fishing Reports / Monday Murray Murderage 6/1/15
« on: June 02, 2015, 06:31:08 AM »
Stopped by my buddy Diesel's (Derek) shop in santee  yesterday after work, and he says let's go hit murray. I said it's 545... he said well I got nothin else to do... I didn't either so we hauled ass to his pad to grab the boat and beer and we're on the agua at 615 with 1.75hrs to catch a fish. Within 20 mins he sticks one on TW.

Not huge but TW at murray is hard to come by. Not 5 casts later I hear a big slurp and he's on again! With a pig this time!

Couldn't believe he stuck that pig on TW, at murray of all places! So I throw on a fluke and start twitching and crankin. Wasn't what they wanted, I farmed a lil one and sure enough Diesel's on again with another Lil scrappy greenie!

So I'm pretty much just along for the ride at this point. But it's all good, I love being a part of an incredible bite even if I'm not actually getting bit. It's almost 730 and we can see the ranger makin his way around the lake in his truck, I tell Derek let's hit one last point that usually holds some fish, as soon as we finish that conversation he gets another smaller fish.

Well its about 745 now and we're pretty much done, bout 10mins later we say ok that was awesome helluva spur of the moment trip, Yada Yada, last casts. He throws up next to the tullies and walks the bait over a layed own tullie and gets his back treble hung up and as he's trying to get it unstuck I see him get absolutely CRUSHED! OMFG BRO! WTF! The fish is trying to get unstuck from the tullie he's trying to get the fish unstuck and not lose her and it's a DONKEY! He manged to get her off the stick and she goes ape sh!t! 3 huge head shakes and jumps and she goes straight under the boat b4 he grabbed her phat lip and every jogger on the lake heard both of us hootin n hollerin!

DD Donkey

8:01pm shes back swimming. that's all she wrote, not bad for under 2hrs less than 4 miles from my buddy's pad!

Got a text on Saturday from my old partner in crime, Willis, he went offshore chasing BFT and had primo bait left over... so after 100 mile round trip to the surf Monday with squatch I decided to stay closer to home last night and hit a spot that usually produces with fresh bait. Got to the spot lil b4 6 and setup for the evening sesh. Willis' chick hooks up 1st with a tattoo sized $#!t shark, good sign. Then she gets a hand off from willis of what he thought was a Leopard but ended up being a decent wiggler ;)

She was stoked, biggest fish she's landed so far. the lil bait munchers were tearing the fresh macks up within minutes of rebaiting, tails were being chewed off so I went for broke and pinned on a big juicy head. within 15mins I get ran. Definitely a shark, lots of head shake and tail slap, back and forth run, then I see her. Willis is gettin bit while I'm fighting her, his chick was a good sand hand though and took the rod as I tailed her!

Nice Lil 4' kitten

Went quiet for a bit as the tide wasn't moving much, then it went off, willis lost back to back donkeys, pretty sure one was a Leo, and one a bigger bat. Lil bit after the farmage willis lands a lil 20# male bat, and hands his chick off a lil bigger 30# female bat lil b4 dark. 30mins to go b4 the buzzer, his chick's spinner, with 20# mono, goes off on a monster! He sets the hook and hands it off to her and she gets worked for a good 10mins b4 she hands it back and they trekked down the shore chasing the beast, he turns the fish and hands it back and they fought her for easily 30mins b4 I see them coming back my way with the fish almost subdued. I run over and can see the tail whippin, and it's a serious bat! Willis is worked, idk how he kept the beast on, on 20# especially with the drag I could hear it pulling from almost 100yds away and all the obstacles in the area. He gets her into the shallows a few times b4 I got as deep as my boots will allow and grab her for them.

Legit Bat!

We called it a night after that ordeal, and the buzzer had already sounded. Awesome time with old friends, even knocked out a "cartilagous slam" and had zero -1s, or "ZERO" fish, which are -1s in my book ;)

Needed to get outta the pad, so we flipped a coin between the salt and the fresh. Fresh won and we did too...

Got to my aunties pond round 330, tried the dock for 30mins for a few nibbles. Saw some boils across the way and jumped in the boat to see what was up. I Got a few clones on reaction baits.

My girls creepin a paddle tail Senko and hooks up to a hawg that had some shoulders on it. she fought her like a pro and when she finally showed herself I grabbed the beast and it turned out to be her PB!

Beautiful 5.5-6# green hawg!

She was absolutely stoked and I couldn't be more proud of her! Well she set the bar high with her 1st fish! So I tied on a worm and went to work looking for a biggin of my own. Few clones a piece later I hook into a better fish, she laughed when I asked for a pic, of a 3.5#r! Gotta love it when your woman can talk enough sh!t to actually make you a lil more motivated ;)

My lil 3.5# phatty B)

We caught a few more on that spot b4 I wanted to go see whats left of the pond. We made a lap and passed a gorgeous rock pile, I told my girl we were gonna stick em there. Finished the sight seein and crept into the middle of the two boulders. I decided to throw a darker bait since the water was pretty murked up and figured a creature bait would be a good choice for these pre-spawn bass. I told my girl b4 I hooked my bait on that this is the bait ima stick my phatty on! She chuckled and said okay as she cracked open a big eye and sent up a smoke signal, so I did the same ;) I Put my bass mask on and got real serious as I made my 1st cast toward the monolith emerging from the agua. I feel my bait hit the bottom, crawlin it over a couple rocks when I get absolutely CRUSHED! Instant drag rippin, strong pulls at will, 20lb braid flying off the reel, this was the one! My girl sees me battling this monster and gets everything outta my way since the fish was kickin my a$$! She never showed herself until she went under the back of the boat and I coaxed her around to the side and saw a huge flash as she ripped out into open water again. Beast babe!! GIANT!!! Was bout all I could say b4 she finally gave in and jumped right at the boat trying to throw the hook. After the second jump that almost gave me a heart attack I managed to lip the monster!

Perspective shot B) that's what u call a phatty!

Release shot

Needless to say I still have that sh!t eatin grin on my face! We caught a few more clones after that, my girl was tryin like hell to get one bigger than mine! But today was my day, finally!

We drove off into the sunset round 745, stopped for a Strong Island for her to drown her defeat and I celebrated with a few sculpins! Damn, what a day. Glad she wanted to go fishin! Glad the fish gods sent me to the lake instead of the surf or bay with all the crowds B)

Sorry for the long report not every day I get the fish of a lifetime, at least I feel I've been waiting a lifetime for a fish like that! So stoked my girl was there to see it and to see her get her new PB!

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Friday the 13th Sharkin'
« on: March 15, 2015, 12:13:37 PM »
With the summer like heat and hot bite that everyone was getting into I decided to take up Joe and Jimmy on their invite and hit up the surf. Left the hood round 530 and finally got through traffic and got to the spot round 645ish. Parking was ridiculous, u would have thought it was the 4th of July or something. Lucky for me Joe had a lil room between him and another car so I convinced him to scoot his car over so I could squeeze in B) Jimmy showed up lil b4 dark, we all were throwing macks and getting chewed on. bout 5 soaks in and half way through my 2nd big eye I get bit big time! Knew it was a shark from the hook set, thought for a min she was a 7 but ended up being a nice phat Leopard.

The whole beach came down to check her out! Probably didn't help I Iked out when Joe n Jimmy tailed her B) still amazes me how oblivious locals are, they freak out about seeing sharks come outta ocean lol!

Jimmy got a good bite lil after that but she didn't fully commit. Stuck it out til lil after 10 but the bite died round 9... thanks for the pics and sand handing Joe and Jimmy, good time with good peeps B)
