General Board / Just looking
« on: December 31, 2022, 07:05:58 AM »
I found myself at Bass Pro yesterday :o ;D Had nothing else to do so Janie and I took a drive just to look ::) We met some friends for lunch in the restaurant and did some shopping and I think it was the first time we left without breaking the bank ;D I picked up a hoodie for 20 bucks (can't beat that) and also a backup rod/reel combo, mainly as a setup for descending rockfish. Penn Warfare
20lw on a 6'6 Penn rod. Nothing fancy or expensive, just an extra rod to have on the boat, that's all ::)

Happy New Year, be Safe !!!

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Merry Cyclops
« on: December 22, 2022, 07:58:54 PM »
Well the season is winding down and I wanted to get in some Rockfish action before it shuts down ;) Planned on leaving here at 5am but my dad's truck broke down right around the corner from my house so I had to hop in my Jeep and tow him into my yard, that put us almost 40 minutes behind schedule ::) Not to worry, we got to South Shores to a beautiful 45 degrees :o Glad I brought some sweat pants :)

Found a few favorite spots but we were off to a very slow start even though conditions were perfect :( Max had no problem finding Mackerel with the Sabiki :)

We scooted around quite a bit but the damn Sand Dabs were everywhere, which told me we were in the wrong spot :( :( I think the Macs wore out Max ;D

After fishing in the 250 foot spots, we headed in shallow to 120-150 feet and the bite seemed to come together, my dad finally got a player other than Dabs and Macs 8)

After a few drifts and bait thieves, I got slammed and I knew it was good so I yelled for the net from Mr. Sleepy Boy up front :o

We scratched a few more small fish and only one Whitefish and we called it a day at 2:05 PM. I headed back to Mission Bay at 25-30 MPH, 15 minutes we were at the inlet, smooth ride :) Got to the launch ramp to a super low tide :o I put Bad Pig in 4WD just in case ;) Got home a bit after 4 PM  and washed up the gear and The Cyclops and bagged up all the Mackerel for Bat Fight bait :D
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year  8) 8)

General Board / Bad Pig With a Turkey
« on: November 29, 2022, 08:16:48 PM »
It came fast this year but Thanksgiving meant it was time to head to the Desert. I cooked the turkey on Tuesday along with all the fixings and some Scooby Snacks too ;D Bad Pig got us there safe and sound again 8)

We had to pull over and wait for a buddy cause his dog didn't want to go for the ride apparently, so we chatted for a few across from Harrah's Casino  ::)

Headed up Palomar Mountain and across the Desert to our destination, set up camp and the weekend officially started on Wednesday 8)

The site wasn't as level as needed so I dug a hole for the duals to compensate, it was perfect ;) Tri-Tip on the smoker was the dinner of choice for Wednesday night :)

Thursday was great weather for Thanksgiving 8) It got chilly when the sun went down ;)

ftp://

Early morning hike to get the day started, I usually do 3 miles but since we were in relax mode, 1 mile was good enough :D Found a cool Sun Dial on my hike,it was spot on 8)

Off to Ocotillo Wells to say hello to some other friends for a quick visit :D Cruised by The Salton Sea too

We goofed around and flew the drone and got some cool shots of the Campground

Saturday we went Off Roading, Aaron took his truck and I got to ride Shotgun :)

Back to camp and lots of chill'in and snacking ;D

Seemed like it was always picture time :o

Pickle Ball kept them busy too ;)

My buddy, Larry cooked breakfast Saturday, I wanted French Fries ;D

The fires felt good at night and we all enjoyed them ;)

Can't camp without making Cobbler :) :)

It felt good to get back home after 4 days, time to get some fishing in if the weather cooperates 8)

General Board / Almost Complete
« on: November 16, 2022, 06:21:54 AM »
Getting closer to finalizing the Mezzanine, got the stairs built. I had some angle iron so I cut and made brackets for the treads which I used from another project, then had to make another Home Depot run to get more wood ;D

They turned out pretty solid 8)

Got the OSB and 2x4's, ready to lay the floor and build a Pony Wall

Time to start organizing my fishing gear. The long rods will lay up top when I am finished

Started to organize the chaos in the Shop below ::)

The only thing left to do is build a railing around the stairway and hang up all my road signs and she will be complete 8) Hopefully my wife Janie doesn't think this is ''her extra closet space'' :o ;D

General Board / Got Wood
« on: October 29, 2022, 08:24:55 PM »
My work shop has been a nightmare lately so I decided to add a Mezzanine to gain some square footage. The shop is 32x40 with 14' walls so I came off of the bathroom wall and went to the end which was 34' in length and I decided to go 8' wide, giving me 272 additional square feet to fill with more stuff ::) ::) ;D  I have to organize my fishing gear and get things out of the way to be able to have working room for projects ;)

Off to Home Depot to get wood ;D Had to make 2 trips >:(

Clearing stuff off of the back wall created a major Cluster F*ck  :-[ :-[

Installed the Ledger Board and bolted it to the studs, Myles helped out by taking down the signs  8)

Time to lay out the posts (6x6) and drill holes for the anchor bolts .....5/8x 4 inches

Now it was time to notch the posts, after a bit of math and measuring twice ;) ;) I let max finish the cut that the cut off saw couldn't do. I  didn't tell him I have a Sawzall ;D ;D

I down, 3 to go

2 2X8X11', 4'' will go in the notched posts after installing all the joist hangers

Next was setting all the joists in place and making sure all was level, looking good so far 8)

Now I just have some blocking to do and add some Simpson Strong Ties to the joists, then build the stairs. I more trip to Home Dump for the Plywood flooring and I should be done. Not bad for 2 days of creating a mess ;D  Hope to get the boat out again soon when things calm down.

General Board / Ready For The Road
« on: October 25, 2022, 07:15:56 AM »
The 5th Wheel is due for new shoes so instead of trying to take it to the Tire Shop (36' eats up a parking lot), I jacked her up and took off the rims and tires myself. My other utility trailer was way overdue for tires too so I made a day of it. Since I only have so many jacks and blocks I decided to make two trips to town for the tires as I had to be down there again anyway. At least now I feel at ease knowing the tires are new and road worthy, nothing worse than having a blowout on your RV 1/2 way to the destination :) :)

Camping/Desert Season is here  8)

General Board / Time For A Clean Start
« on: October 18, 2022, 03:44:10 PM »
Well, it's that time of year to start prepping for Winter :o October is when we usually start to burn the wood stove and start warming the house on the cooler evenings. For 23 years, every October I have called the Chimney Sweep and he cleans not only our stove but a couple neighbors and a few family members as well 8) Cheap insurance and piece of mind against a chimney fire ;) He starts on top and removes and cleans the cap and the stainless steel pipe inside the Chimney.

Right on time as usual 8)

I don't do ladders anymore, he is way up there :)

Nice view of my neighbor from up there 8)

After the cleanse from the top, he moves to the clean-out and gets busy

This is what causes chimney fires.....CREOSOTE !!!

This is the tool that he attaches to his drill, no metal, more like weed eater string ;)
;)

Now to clean the wood stove, Mongo was supervising  ;D

All clean, now I get to clean the glass :)

Cozy warm now, Mongo happy 8)

If you have a fireplace you should have it cleaned on a regular basis, stay safe out there 8)

My neighbor gave me some of his rods , reels and 2 tackle boxes full of goodies, the rods are in decent shape and need to be cleaned up and hopefully still have life  ;) The reels will probably need to be serviced and be put to good use along with all the lead and lures 8)

Here is the bounty

SeaLine 600's go with the Trolling Rods

Nice haul for free  8)

Saltwater Boat Fishing Reports / Lake LJ
« on: October 09, 2022, 07:38:45 PM »
Conditions were forecast to be great so I took The Cyclops out to La Jolla and my dad wanted to go this trip so it was a perfect day for it 8) We had to launch out of Ski Beach cause South Shores was closed (Thanks for the heads up ,Tom) and I figured Dana Landing would be a cluster F@ck ;) Quiet ramp but there is a hump at the top and my trailer scraped a little so I wont be back there, not to mention all the Water Hornets buzzing everywhere causing wakes ::) Oh well all was good.

Hit our 1st spot and we cleaned up on Whitefish and a few small Starry's

Spot 2 was the hot spot :o

Then Myles and I doubled up 8) 8)

My buddy got a few Sheephead

I got another Chucklehead

It was a lake till about 1:30 and it got breezy but still nice

Dad had fun but I could tell he was getting tired

I maintained between 27 and 30 MPH heading back to Mission Bay, it was smooth 8) Had to dodge the Lobster buoys, they were thick but we made it back and only burned 10 gallons of gas today :)

Now for the fun part, this Kill Bag is full  :o

Food & Recipe / Smoked Meatloaf
« on: October 04, 2022, 06:44:03 PM »
My cousin gave us some hamburger from a steer they had butchered recently so I decided to to mix it with some ground turkey and make a Meatloaf :)

Added some peppers from my garden along with a bunch of other stuff to give it some flavor.

Fired up the BBQ and roasted some Chili's for the top ;)

Onto the smoker she went 8)

Added some BBQ sauce and the roasted Chili's for the final 30 minutes :)

Sh%t looks GOOD :o

Had to test it out before the Vultures got ahold of it ;D   Super moist and full of flavor, everyone loved it 8)

Tackle Talk / Roddy
« on: September 28, 2022, 05:01:33 PM »
I just happened to be in Big 5 today and saw this rod....... A Roddy BR80. The Roddy name has been around for a long time and I have seen the rods but never owned one, so I picked it up and gave it a look :) I know you Tackle Snobs are loyal to a specific brand but I have a mixed assortment, so poke away but be gentle ;D Anyway, $60 and a $5 off coupon seemed like a good deal for an extra boat rod or spare for backup so I snagged it. Time to find a reel but there is no rush. Let me know if you have experience with these rods, I know an Ugly Stik is about the same price but thought I would switch it up a bit since I already have a few.

Time for another Rod holder, this one is full  :-[

OK, tear me up ;D ;D
