The secret spot
« on: September 21, 2016, 10:30:19 AM »
Woke up at 5am and couldnt sleep . Muztve been amped from watching the shark god earlier.  Loaded up the truck and went to the bait beach. 1st cast got hit and the second was on with a lizard. Must've caught 15 of them. Kept one for bait but then the macks showed up so didn't need him.   , caught a few YFC too but let em go.  Relocated to the sharks beach and started to wait for the high tide. weeds were everywhere and the surf was up making it very difficult to keep a bait out there. I almost went home but told myself if I cold just get 1 shark on the fresh bait it will be worth it. 1 hour in and the reel sings. I'm on and it feels good but then slack.... threw the hook!  I keep soakin and the waves and weeds are relentless.  Alan shows up and we start to shoot the sh!t. Hadn't seen each other since Saturday night bat fight 2 years ago. Another soaker shows up and sets up between us.  Finally I get a good take.  Here you go!

Great video boss!  So quick question. Do you cast the senator reel or do you paddle it out?
Nice trip for sure and great read for my lunch break!
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

I cast it. It's totally castable with a 6 or 8 ounce.  I even use it for throwing 6x jr salas for yt off boats. Light aluminum spool and solid frame. My other 4/0 is a dog with the heavy steel spool. I have a 4/0 wide with light spool I want to spool up some day.

I think you're the only fishing "old school" from the surf. There maybe a couple of guys who use a Penn 500 series or Newell, but most have gone modern.

All of my gear is old school, as for conventional reels. Modern stuff is too pricey, with family (two teenage boys). With it being in the surf and sand, it's better for me. Main thing is to keep up the maintenance.
