Instead of going back where we had success, we switched it up and tried another area. In hindsight, it probably would have been a good idea to strike while the iron is hot in the other spot, but we gave it a go anyway.
Water was 75% clean. Occasional grass and a few big stringers rolling through. Small surf and warm water.
Lots of lobster bait stealers... Steve got 2 calico bass and I got a troublesome eel on my last cast.
Andrew and Steve split around 10:30. I hung out until 11:00 before taking off. The eel had me fooled for 2 seconds as it really made the rod jump at first, but I knew what he was soon as I peeled him out of whatever he drug me into.
Oh well, I hope someone else had some success!

So how do you go about unhooking one of those nasty eels??
First, stare at it real hard and will it to come off the hook.
Then, make several tentative attempts to grab the hook with pliers.
Once you finally grab the hook, let it go at least three times as the eel twists and threatens to bite off a finger.
Finally, grab the hook firmly, hold the eel up and give it a hard shake to release it.
Instantly jump up and backwards to save your toes from eely detachment.
Find s stick or use your rod holder to poke at it so it oozes back to sea.
Spend the rest of the night wondering how far away it swam.

LOL at Steve's tutorial....but when your in the moment trying to unhook the nasty creatures it's very aggravating. I get the urge to want to step down on it with one foot or hold it down to get some leverage to yank the hook out somehow but you cant or you'll get locked down on.

Never caught any the size you did. Caught some smaller models in the bay and those F'ers were NASTY!
