Well, I've been working 10-14 hour days and today was no exception. I got an invite from Josh, but I was bound for home as I was whooped and living on 4 hours of sleep a night.
Sasquatch calls at the zero hour and tells me to get my ass down and fish since it's Tuesday, and I couldn't argue, but it was going to be a quick session.
It was actually nice resting on the cooler as only bait stealers were around and picking our baits every 15 minutes. I could have fell asleep on the beach and Steve said he was done after seeing nothing real investigate our baits. I had half a mackerel still and didn't want to waste my money or the good bait so said I was going to stick it out for 30 minutes. He promptly replied, "You got until I get to the freeway to get one"...
Well, it didn't take that long. 5 minutes after he started the trek back to the car I saw a green streak going through the air followed by a screaming clicker! I actually got to my rod and it didn't drop the hook, but I had a great hookset and the fight began!
It ripped line out from a totally buttoned drag and I had my hands full. It was probably a 10 minute fight before I got her in the surf and saw a huge Soupfin flopping all around! I drug her butt up to the rod holder and grabbed the pliers, camera and tape!
Big Beauty!
I got her straight and got a good measurement! Even though it looks 76", I read it at 75.5" when it was at rest next to the fin.
I snapped a bunch of pics, but only a third came out since my camera sucks....
Head Shot.
Hook Shot (First fish on those HUGE 12/0 Big River Gamakatsus!
She released well and I cast one more bait before packing it in. It's going to be another 4 hour sleep night and I have a 6 hour training session tomorrow that I hope I don't sleep through.
In any case, it turned out to be a fantastic night and I can only thank Squatch for it as everytime he leaves, I seem to catch fish before he gets to the freeway! lol
