Freshwater Shore Fishing Reports / Swing and a miss
« on: May 14, 2018, 12:28:29 PM »
Despite the high winds I went to the IV hoping to restock the freezer. Tried several new waters and an old standby but the catfish were not in the mood. Big honking turtle was though.

Let it go as I didn't have anything to hold it in.

Soup kitchen, nothing at all other than yappy beachgoers asking questions.

Fishing Talk / I dumm again
« on: May 08, 2018, 11:21:02 AM »
Wanted to do some light fare at the soup kitchen til sunset, packed rods, waders, etc. 20 minutes into the commute my brain kicks in and realize the thawed bait is still in the garage.

It is in a small ice chest with ice so it should not rot, but I can't fish.  :-[

So doctor says to drop pounds and I figure walking the beach casting for small fare is far better than any other method.

Went to Wind and Sea walked one end to the other an around yet tide came up and grabbed lots of chopped salad and it became unfishable.

Did check Google Earth for landmarks that are a 1 mile from a parking area.

Tried Gulp sandworms for the last time, which have never gotten jack for me, and I'm done with plastics. Give me bait.

General Board / Bum wheel, knee issues
« on: April 17, 2018, 01:18:07 PM »
Going to the doc tomorrow. Left knee is jacked up, can't crouch, or bend it without pain and locking. Seems like a meniscus problem.

Any fishing has to take into account limits. Keeping me off the beach.

Will see tomorrow.

Formulating a plan. Only time I have to do this

Meet up in Jacumba then down to several locations to see typical features, off to Johnny Carino's for Italian food for dinner then everyone off to fish.

Will have my Deeper Smart finder if you want to check that out.

More details as I think of them. BYOBait

Mainly a catfish carp event but bass people can come to ;)

This would be so gnarly chasing trick or treaters on the lawn.

It is that time again. Ground will soften and they expand the tunnels.  >:(

Dust off the armaments and get ready to slay dirt rats.

Fishing Talk / Boat update# ??
« on: December 31, 2017, 08:26:34 PM »
So dropped the fuse panes to do some wire chasing and 2 insects came out that may have been worker termites.  >:(

So rather that wire chase or install finished pieces, I proceeded to rip out the rest of the rat fur and unscrew all the wood.

Screws were frozen as cement. Busted out the drill with a hammer drill option it worked miracles! It sheared off the tip from 2 #2 phillips bits in the process?!  :o

2 screws refused and I broke the head off one and got the other out with vise grips.

Under the fur was lots of sand so that was the perpetual grit everywhere.

Back deck is in 3 sections 2 that are 2.5 X 8 footers to the front and a smaller one across the stern. Hopefully tomorrow I can yank all of it out in case of termites and toss in a sheet of standard wood as a temp floor.

Depends what I find bug wise.

On the bright side the back pieces should be easy compared to the bow and port side.

Fishing Talk / First piece nearly done
« on: December 26, 2017, 06:30:08 PM »
Now that travel for work and busy season moonlighting is over finally got back to working on the boat. Had to get various painting gear.

Biggest piece is done and once mounted I have a place to stand and sit to work on the rest of the bow pieces.

Not a GWS but a big feat towards getting back on the water.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Bah Humbug part 2
« on: December 24, 2017, 01:24:35 PM »
Went out last night. Awesome conditions but only a little 2 foot Leo and a release at the beach calico that may have been legal.

Tide wasn't really best but it was my only window to get out. Had the big rod and critter rod

Fun part was trying the last of my carp because I didn't trust the soft bonito to survive the cast or the lobsters.

Anyhow switched to carp and they pulled and pulled at it but never got it off the hook. Came in all gnawed up but didn't get stolen.

Having never cut one up, what would I be looking at?

I take it a bone in the center of the wings?

Anyone going out tonight? Don't want to catch something and not win the contest due to a lack of a sand hand. ;)
