Solo trip for a surf grinner. Ended up sharing the sand with Ramon and his girl. Moved north of them to give them plenty of room. Fresh San Diego bay macks was the offering.
1st bait hits the water, less than 2 minutes later a 50"+ bat hits the sand with Ramon's help. I didn't even call him over for help, he just came over.... awesome dude!! Sign of things to come or the dreaded first cast curse?
Tide pretty much peaked at this point with it on the way out. A couple of baits later, I get a round ray. I tell you, I'm a magnet for rays. I get one on almost every trip. But, it beats the skunk!
Next bait and what would become my final bait gets mixed up in the kelp that is starting to make an appearance. Fishing with the reel in freespool and a clicker is almost becoming impossible. Ramon chats me up a bit as he and his girl are calling it a night, just then my clicker starts to scream! Definitely the right kind since it is fighting just like my last solo sesh. This one is smaller, but she hits the sand with Ramon's help.
71" on the dot! The one I lost last week fought way harder than this one, but this got me on the fabled shark list
