General Board / New to Oceanside
« on: March 03, 2015, 12:03:30 PM »
As the title says, I'm gonna be staying in Oceanside now that I got a new job down here, I'll be staying here Monday through Friday for work, till about 5pm, and Saturday/Sunday I'll be in LA. In the pm I'd like to soak the long rods, but I'm completely lost when it comes to tackle shops, and where's a good spot for macks/squid. If anything I'll probably be jigging the pier for macks, but if I can't come across any, I'll just pick some up....does anyone have any suggestions, or care to have a session this week, assuming the surf conditions are decent? Any responses would be greatly appreciated

« on: February 22, 2015, 01:19:38 PM »
After stocking up fresh macks in longbeach, I've went the last 2 days to long rod Samo in the evenings looking for some bats
Didn't get any bats, but fished some calm waters with friends and ended up with 1 leo each night, and my buddy also got 1 aswell

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / long rod skunk sesh
« on: January 29, 2015, 06:59:57 AM »
Made the 200 mile round trip to do some long rodding at the spot.....unfortunately no bites just heavy, heavy kelp and eel grass....
Till the conditions turned real nice at about 8, so made wading out there quite a ways out there seem easy, just makes me feel uneasy tho in 7gill country, but otherwise that didn't help
Ps.And on the way home almost was watching a drunk driver cause a scene about 200 yards up the road on the 5 freeway, swerving from 1 lane to the next, wall to wall, till she finally hit the right shoulder, bounced off, and pitted a minivan, causing it to spin out and crash into the diver...Just clearing....they both were able to pull over after and hug the shoulder after atleast...

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / samo surf turned bay
« on: October 06, 2014, 01:34:12 PM »
As the title says, I made the drive to the samo coast, and was greeted by some big rollers, so I made the decision to head south and fish the bay, soaking half macks/bonito we hooked 4 rays, only 1 I was able to land, the rest found the moorings, bite was strictly during a falling tide

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / long rodding samo 9/30
« on: October 01, 2014, 12:46:40 AM »
Got a bit of late start, which seems to be the usual thing now oddly enough. Setup around 8ish and stayed till 10, had 1 pull down, which I missed and landed 1 55" leo, and my buddy got 1 @49". Weird part is they both regurgitated there stomach which I've never had happen before, but I'm guessing they swallow it back down upon release? Please excuse the side ways shots, still not sure on how to correct that via mobile

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / slow night in samo
« on: September 27, 2014, 01:10:25 PM »
Fished will rogers 4 about 2 hrs, I was soaking whole macks on a 3 way swivel rig, 5oz sputnik, my buddies fished squid on a Carolina rig, they landed 2 smoothhounds, maybe 18"-24", and 4 or 5 sngf, surprisingly, I had a tractor eat my whole mack, even had the gf tail it in the skinny. After we fished corral beach, not bit even a bite, fished till 1am, started at 8pm, still nice being or with the spring stars lately, hopefully tonight I'll get something toothy

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Manhattan pier
« on: September 26, 2014, 11:01:35 AM »
Not sure if this will count for the shore fishing, but I think it'll be close enough. Any how decided to take the surf rods out and fish the pier, something I don't do as much anymore. Although we got to the pier fairly late, we easily loaded up on some macks, got a real nice 1, and slid him down via trolley rig, he some how turned into a nice 55" female leo, she cooperated easily, slid into the hoop net, snapped a pic and sent her back
