Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / 11/30 surf soak
« on: December 01, 2015, 08:37:09 AM »
Freezing night to be wading with no waders. Very dark.
Very low tide. Primo mackerel. Occasionally eel grass clumps. Avg soak time of 30 or so mins. Empty beach.
50% of the time my bait would return untouched. No noticeable bites....fished from 7:30 or so till 11:00. Hopefully next time.

Fished from 7 till 11:30. First 2 hrs were very slow, so i loaded up for on smelt for light tackle long rodding. Then around 9ish wfo mackerel. Stocked up on a good 40 small to medium size Mack's.
Plus about 10 or so people decides todays the day to jump off the pier for a swim, obviously I didn't encourage that tho....

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / 1st weekend surf trip
« on: August 08, 2015, 01:27:18 PM »
Long time no report. But finally got a chance to sneak out and do some lighter tackle am fishing. Target, halibut.
Met up with halibutjoel, who's just a great guy at the spot at 5 sharp. Chitt chatted a bit. Rigged and off to fish!
I was up 1st with a pop tart.
And Joel for some reason, just has all kinds of doormats rushing good offering to his feet, only to somehow miss and retreat.
A short time later, I've dabbled with dropshot and land 2 small bass and another poptart on the lc. And finally get the right hit, till Joel identified it, party killer.

As Joel continues missing bites I hooked a good 1 that straightened the rear stock hook. Had 2 go wading in there twice for my lc too. Thank god only waist deep water, rocks were not nice tho.
We relocate around 7 and got company from what I am assuming is a Scotsman, and his bag pipe. Would of bin sweet to land a legal to his tune... By this time we fished another hr or 2 for no more bites. And relocate for smokes, (dropped my brand new pack in the water putting them away), an epic breakfast at Angelo's, and I needed a couple lc's, and Joel needed to retire his reel, so he got a new reel that needs to be proven. Overall a great morning followed by a heavy nap.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / In search of teeth
« on: June 30, 2015, 07:39:55 AM »
Went out earlier than usual so I can scout some new spots, and mainly escape this kelp.
Even brought 2 long rods to soak, bait was macks on the heavy, with squid on the 2nd.
Found a great spot just before sunset, with chocolate water north and south, so I was worried I may be kelped out in a few hours. Luckily that never happened. Neither did the right bites either.
Got some lobster, got some eels (that really pissed me off) and a few chunky calicos, including 1 that choked down my rig, so I invited it to dinner for my bro. The calico was full of red crab btw. Even got checked on by dfg, that's twice in 2 weeks, cool to see there more active down here.
FIshed from 8ish till 1 am.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Monday night surf soak
« on: June 23, 2015, 09:18:11 AM »
Had the gf come down from la, and with hopes of getting a surf soup expectations were high.
Unfortunately no go. Kelp was bad, tide was way down. But, Atleast got a pair of leos and missed 2 bites. 1 at 58", the other we didn't measure, but a mid 40 model.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Nice night out
« on: June 19, 2015, 12:26:20 AM »
Made the solo run to a new a.o, and was quickly greeted by dfg. Always nice seeing them out on the sand. Forgot to get his name, but he was an older bald fellow.
I was armed with fresh macks and soaking my usual rigs, kelp had its moments. And it didn't take long for soup #1 to hit the sand, a green 71" female
I recast maybe twice, with long soaks, and started getting tired by 11:30. But felt like holding the surf rod and waiting for a bite was in order, for some reason I had a feeling I'd get a bite quicker? Go figure,  I felt the tap tap, boom. Missed it on the swing, rebait a midsection, cast, and just wait holding the rod and keeping the line right while I browse thru my phone. Maybe 10 mins go by, tap tap, slack, boom! A real spunky 65"f emale hits the sand. Unfortunately she swallowed the hook, so I cut her loose as close as possible in quick manner.

I really wanted to recast with a fresh bait, but by now it close to midnight, got a decent drive, I'm tired, so I get my remaining 2 macks, finally dice and distribute them to the surf and call it a night.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Samo Sunday
« on: June 01, 2015, 05:36:26 PM »
Since I was up in la. I decided to meet up with a good friend and hit up the old stomping grounds.
We were gonna yak, but conditions looked rough online. So we opted to light rod.
Go figure we arrived to decent conditions, aside from salad build up every other cast, but fishable.  Mind you I have a bad track record with light rodding and ruining cell phones,  so it stayed in the car.
But I ended the day with 1 barely legal calico, a short calico, a chovy, queenfish, and a maybe 20" wsb on the croc, rattletrap and dropshot gulp smile.
As for my buddy he got a nice yfc, and a brute 7.1 pound spotfin on the lc!

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / cbad lagoon, pre-work 5/29
« on: May 30, 2015, 11:35:46 AM »
Hey guys, had woke up extra early for once and hit the lagoon by 5:30am. Bought a new cane pole at Walmart for $11, bought a couple loafs of bread aswell.
As I got there i seen opaleyes cruising the shore and proceeded to get about 30 or so for my 2 hr session, with maybe 10 being good size. Also farmed a couple garibaldi. Along with a short halie I didn't measure. Plus a nice spottie at 17". Those came on live 3" opaleye worked in slowly. The opaleye came on flyline bread with a 16 gold treble.  They were a blast to catch on the cane pole btw. Thanks for reading

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / wide open grinner bite
« on: May 27, 2015, 09:44:52 AM »
Jk  lol
met up with Steve and Tom for a good old Tuesday night session, I got there at about 6, Steve and Tom around 3 or 4...to very rough conditions!
But that didn't stop us, it did stop the sharks a bit tho....the first bite went to Steve at about 6:30, he had just cast a recycled mackerel chunks, it'd bin through 5 or 6 cast go figure....he put the rod in the holder, pulled some line and had a ripper!!!!!literally 15 seconds after putting it in the holder...the look on his face as his reel screamed! Unfortunately,  it dropped as he started crankin.
next up was me making a decent cast with half a jumbo mack, followed by horror as I saw a big wave coming thru while I was atop my rocky casting platform, as I turned to run, you guessed it, I ate sh!t big time and fell off my perch lol just a bruised ego, and knee.
Tom was up next! He had just casted and was putting his glow tip on, when all the sudden something tried yanking his rod out of his hands! And as he crank and crank trying to get a good hookset, you guessed it. It was gone. He was convinced it was the right kind, my gut is saying eel.
by this time it's 9'o clock, I'm getting tired, Steve is contimplating to set his alarm to go. I go to rebait, and snag! I try a different angle and out comes a 16"calico bass...she's coming to dinner with me tomorrow.
No pics on my part, I'm sure Tom has a couple of the scenic pics and my bass. As always nice fishing with you guys

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / cbad lagoon, lunch break
« on: May 26, 2015, 01:48:07 PM »
Had a chance to stop and wet a line for a bit, and hopefully break in my new surf gear, a teramar/sedona combo with 10# mono, for lc's, small big hammer, etc...plus, with all these catches halibutJoe has bin making, it pumped me up for some flatfish...unfortunately, the wrong kind of flatty
