I believe the positive score sessions are quite sparse right now. I very been mayor of Skunksville for sometime now. Not sure if a Butterfly Ray constitutes a score.
It's got to break open sometime.

The butterfly ray would be a big score in my books.  Especially since you caught it with your boys, and I've never caught one  :D

LOL chad, Im on pins and needles waiting for you give the heads up the 7's are back in town.

We still need to find a time to hit the sand together.

Don't worry, if I'm the first to land one when they come back home, you'll be getting a text as soon as it's back in the water. My money's on Joe though, he's been putting in a lot of time on the sand.  :D

Thanks Joe!
It's not the tip, I think that'd be the easiest to fix.  It's the second guide up from the reel. It's not huge, maybe as big around as my wedding ring.
It looks like it has a really thick layer of epoxy holding it on (I'm sure there's thread wrapping under that) so I'm not sure how to remove/replace it.
I'm big on DIY though so hoping I can get the knowledge here to at least make it useable  :D

I've tried a couple of new spots lately.  Mainly because the usual spot hasn't been producing. I find it fun to explore new places, but always second guess myself wondering what I'm missing at the old spot haha!

Tackle Talk / Blew out a guide on my spinning rod
« on: August 30, 2016, 01:03:36 PM »
Last time out I blew out one of the guides on my Daiwa Sealine 12' surf rod.
The knot on my shock leader caught and ripped the insert out of the guide.  It also broke the line right there and I lost the terminal rig as well  >:(

What is the easiest way to fix the guide?  Can I replace the insert or do I need to replace the whole guide?

Also, in the mean time, is it ok to use it as is??
Thanks!
Chad

Right on Verne!  You're becoming a real jack-of-all-trades fisherman!  Time you try your hand at flyfishing next!

I fly fished the whole time I lived in Mount Shasta and Bishop Chad ('72 to '97), many more years than I've surf fished.  When I lived up around Grass Valley ('97 to '09) I spent years on the Sac and Feather Rivers chasing sturgeon, stripers and salmon.  It all started when I was 12 fishing for Bluegill at the local park  8)

That's great! You've got to be one of the most well rounded fishermen I know of  8)

Yea, that SNGF had me fooled for a bit.  I really thought I had big Leo or a small 7gill.

Dad met me at a new spot I've been wanting to try. Seemed like a it has a lot of potential, but still no sharks.  >:( We fished from 5-9 with only a few small bites on the long rods.
I did land my PB SNGF though!
45"!

Caught on more tractor that was about 36".
They are fun to catch when nothing else is biting.
