Fishing for Hali while prospecting new sharking areas.
« on: June 20, 2015, 04:54:40 PM »
First off let.me say I'm just loving this surf fishing, morning and evening.
Hit the beach at 5:30 am with my fishing compadre Jerry.
We decided to take the morning off from sharking and raying and throw some swim baits in the surf while out looking for new potential fishing spots.
Surf was a little rough but fishable.
45 mins in a feel a tap on the line but think it's just a price of salad and continue to reel. Don't feel like much of nothing then the drag starts to sing.
My first Halibut of the year and it a legal.
Just shy of 23"

Retied and threw the LC till it got snagged up and broke off.
Switched up to Big Hammer Pacific Achovey. Figure I'll use a big bait for a big fish.
The result is a small Sandie.

Couldn't even get the whole bait in his mouth. Lol!

That was it for today.
Unfortunately Jerry was getting bit but nothing stuck today for him. We did find some new area to try at night so maybe the next time we post we will be wearing a grin.
Lines tight everyone.
