General Board / Throwback pic of Halibut
« on: September 21, 2018, 04:17:14 PM »
Wow, I was doing some maintenance on one of my old Lacie Drives and came across this picture. I caught this halibut just outside Dana Harbor, back in 2005. This was when I first started ocean fishing. I had no idea what I was doing, as you can see, by the way, I'm holding this fish. Thank God, the guy I was fishing with had a gaff, and small bat onboard his skiff to smack that fish over the head with.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Jussst a little north Ventura
« on: June 11, 2018, 07:01:02 PM »
Went on a road trip this past weekend, up to Marin County, to visit some friends. I decided to do a little fishing while I was up that way. My wife and her girlfriend chose wine tasting, a lot of wine tasting. While they were getting tipsy, I was getting skunked all over town  :-\. The winds were gusting at 23 to 25 mile per hour. The winds died down a bit on my last day up there. So I decide to give it the old college try once again, and I was still getting skunked  :-\. However, I did meet some really great people at my last location. Joaquin Gutierrez, his daughter Brianna Gutierrez, and Joe Castro, they were catching everything from crabs, to bat rays, leos, and rock fish. They notice things were not going well for me, so they offered a few suggestions, to no avail. They start to pack up and call it a day. Then Joaquin, and Joe, both suggested that I meet them later that evening at another spot. So, after consuming a medium round table pan pizza, I decide to give it the old college try once again. This time things worked out :D. It was a bat fest. Joaquin and Joe both pulled in bats that measured 56 inches. Joe, pulled in another one that was pushing 60inches. I caught two that were in the 30 plus range and a nice sand shark.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Still haven't master posting Pics
« on: November 14, 2017, 10:52:22 AM »
I never do reports because I still don't know how to post pics. Well here's my report, I went out with Vern, and his very cool nephew Denny on Sunday night. We all had a blast hanging out and talking. I was able to catch a nice size bat ray that was very close to 40 inches across. But the big catch of the night goes to Vern, when he hauled in a wayward lobster trap. Way to go Vern.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / My First Soupfin
« on: October 05, 2017, 04:17:07 PM »
After months of being schooled by Binh and Mike on how to catch a Soupfin, I finally landed one. I decided to head out on a solo session. I caught a half dozen medium size bat rays, before I landed this little, but nice Soup, The sun was about to set and I was down to my last mac head, I tossed it out, and 10 minutes later, I landed my first Soupfin. I now have a 7 gill and Soupfin on my personal fishing board. Oh and last but not least, a really big shout out to Vern, for putting me on really cool fishing spot, thanks buddy!

General Board / Heading South
« on: February 06, 2017, 12:23:47 PM »
Hi all! I just got the word that my wife's sisters will be in town April 13th through April 17th. When they come to town, I leave town. So, I am about to book a room at the Leucadia Beach Inn. I heard this Inn/hotel, by car, is about five minutes north of Cardiff . I am looking forward to fishing that area, it will be a first for me. So, If anyone is familiar with the beaches around the Leucadia Beach Inn, please let me know where I should go to fish. Also, where the nearest bait and tackle shop is located.

Thanks
