Donfish was set to arrive around noon, and I only have a few more days before I have to start my new job... i.e, no more vacation. Santee Lakes had their final stocking and they usually put in some quality fish, so I headed out early to do a little pre-Bat Fight soak... only with 2# test. One of the stocked lakes was packed... The other was totally empty, so I went to the empty one.
It was a great morning and I missed a couple of bites early. I was getting bummed, when i saw my rod load up and just start SCREAMING OUT! It was pretty damn big and I was sure I had my trophy trout for the year, especially since it hit powerbait! Basically fighting a big fish on 2# is just trying not to have your line break the entire time over actually fighting them.. LOL
To my surprise, and a little dismay, a super long cat came up! It weighed 6.94 on the scale. Not bad for 2#!
Not long later and I get another hit on the powerbait rod, but this one felt like a bigger trout this time! Sure enough it was!
4.82#
I then get another on the next cast, but this one was so small compared to the first trout that I thought they may have stocked this size just to feed the bass.
Best news was when I fileted it, the meat was beautiful and orange!
Well, I called it quits and ran home to meet up with Donfish. I have to say it was a great way to start the weekend and now I have some filets for the smoker!!
