Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Mission to the kitchen
« on: December 15, 2016, 06:49:04 AM »
Drove down from OC  last night and checked a few spots before heading to the GG spot. Happened to meet 1morcast downthere.  :D. So many baits stolen, never saw the nibbless.ended up losing 2 big fish. I can only imagine they were big sharks. So much weight behind them ! The first one shook off after I had him inside the breakers . Next one worked me hard and ran into the reef breaking my 80ib shock leader. Felt I had both so close to being landed! Such an amazing feeling knowing that I had a true beast on the end of my line and crazy adrenaline rush but kinda devastated I couldn't seal the deal. Gonna haunt me for a long time. I'll be back down asap.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Fresh bait FTW

Got up early and hit beach 1. First cast and landed a nice bonito on the 11' carp rod and 10ib leader. Jacob caught a mack on the croc next and Kate followed up with a double on bonito and mack on my home tied double fly  / metal combo with the 13' carp rod.   after a couple hours we were stocked with fresh sexy bait and ready to hit spot number 2. kate had to go to work and was really bummed out. She wants another shark bad.  Header out and set up camp. we both tossed out bonito heads. Took only 12 minutes before I get a pull on the senator.    another hour gos by and Jacob and I start perching with light gear. I happen to look down the beach and see the jig master Sabre combo bend over hard enough to bend the sand spike and get near horizontal. I yelled over to Jacob and he got to it just as it was half way out of the spike.  As I'm reeling in to go help with the tailing I hook up and after a few runs land a near 3' SmoothHound. Quick release and land jmans Leo. needless to say he was pumped! His first shark in probably 5 years.

Got up early and hit the sand at Seal Beach with Kate. We traded off throwing cast master and Sabi kind with 11 and 13 foot carp rods.   my first cast was a lizard fish. A little later got a double on bonito.  hooked another and handed it to Kate. Other fisherman and women weren't catching squat and started moving next to us. Kate threw out again and got a double on bones of her own.  I got anot her lizard and then no more bites for a hour though saw bone boils in the distance and lots of beans and Mullet swimming in the skinny. We took off home and grabbed Vietnamese coffee and Thai tea for breakfast.  Good to have some shark bait in the freezer and maybe even lobster bait. Acquired 3 hoop nets this year and planning to use them once I figure out a spot to paddle out my water tender or 1 man intex raft.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / The secret spot

Woke up at 5am and couldnt sleep . Muztve been amped from watching the shark god earlier.  Loaded up the truck and went to the bait beach. 1st cast got hit and the second was on with a lizard. Must've caught 15 of them. Kept one for bait but then the macks showed up so didn't need him.   , caught a few YFC too but let em go.  Relocated to the sharks beach and started to wait for the high tide. weeds were everywhere and the surf was up making it very difficult to keep a bait out there. I almost went home but told myself if I cold just get 1 shark on the fresh bait it will be worth it. 1 hour in and the reel sings. I'm on and it feels good but then slack.... threw the hook!  I keep soakin and the waves and weeds are relentless.  Alan shows up and we start to shoot the sh!t. Hadn't seen each other since Saturday night bat fight 2 years ago. Another soaker shows up and sets up between us.  Finally I get a good take.  Here you go!

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Cove Kitty
« on: September 18, 2016, 12:33:41 AM »
Got to the spot at sundown and set up base. Lots of people down there but none in the water. Lots of weeds but mostly eel grass. A hour in got a reel screamer . Turned into a 3' Leo.  Didn't tape it . Took a mac head.  Kate got a 13" Calico  on Humboldt squid chunk. couldn't get the flash to work so no pic. We figured it out right after the release of course. Fun little session with lots of stolen baits. And some strong hits.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Shark post storm

Decided to take Kate out for a chance at a big surf fish. Got down a couple hours before the high tide and sent out a mac head and tail section on another rod.  Very little weed action but there were clumps floating around  .            Tail got chewed up so re baited with bonito chunk.    Right at sundown we saw the mac head rod line drop down limp. Ran over and picked it up, line went tight.  I set the hook and handed it off to Kate .  she had a hard time keeping the line tight with the 11' rod, 4/0 senator and shark repeatedly running to the beach. Luckily the hook was set good in the corner of the mouth. I grabbed the the tail in the skinny and it was all over.   . She is stoked! Even though she fell in the wash trying to run backwards to avoid getting b her uggs wet. 😁was pretty hilarious to see . She can't wait to catch a big bat ray ! Bonus pic of me holding the kitty.
