Mission Bay Bat 1/25/16
« on: January 25, 2016, 10:37:19 PM »
Truck was in the shop and didn't get it back till 4:30. That was messing with plans to hit the bay before sunset, and of course hit every red light on the way home.

Picked up Paul and got to MB just as twilight was fading. Whips out a 1 lb box of squid, and they're monsters  :o. There's like 7 pieces, and we have 4 rods LOL. Oh well! Kick it and have some drinks.

Nothing much happened for the first hour+ except a few jingles. I eventually had a good run, only to find an empty hook and one less bait in the box.  :(

I text Tom to let him know the spot was dead yet again. Literally when I put the phone down Paul's rod goes nuts. Thought he had a monster by the initial run, but quickly subdued the mid 40's pup. Still a good show since it's been so quiet lately.

Had a fresh cut stinger too.

10 minutes later and I'm on with another good sized bat. Get it shallow and my line fails trying to muscle it up. I've been putting off changing out my 40lb. Guess that's a hint.

Hope this is a sign of better fishing ahead. Bites came once the tide started filling good.

Aloha~

I'd like to believe that was true. But ... [sigh]

Beautiful ray. Squid seems to be the favorite right now.

Nice to see activity again. Guess the fresh water and poo water have diminished.

Yea the back bay has been clean for a week now ... so the testing says. Wish we had more baits as a regular change up probably would have equalled more action. The tide was crazy low when we got there too.

Hope this is the start of a turn around for us San Diegans. It's been pretty quiet.

Nice one burly dude!   ;D

I feel better that the water is just cleaner.  I didn't even want to rinse the bait slime off my hands as I felt that was cleaner than rinsing them off in the bay.  lol
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

BTW, when I was there last Friday, there was a lot of larger smelt and various sized jellyfish in the water. Not sure if that means anything to snyone, but they were there, en force.
