Need Bigger Gear

80 degree day on the sand, in November, the day before Thanksgiving. Tide going out in the afternoon. Didn't really expect to catch sh!t, but it was just too nice of a day to pass up, so JayRay and I gave it a shot. 4 hookups. Never saw any of the fish, but whatever they were, they made us their bitches. My biggest fears came true, not enough line, cranking power or drag on our coffee grinders. We were able to fight one for 30+ minutes. It spooled my Coronado down to the knot. Standoff until it found some structure Two were taking line so fast we had to go for it on our drags and rigs failed One hit like a freight train, ran, breached and spit the hook

I'm afraid to go back out without bigger gear...

Not Rays, I have not lost that much gear in a session for a really long time. To bad on a four day weekend Amazon prime cant deliver fast enough..... Going to scrape together some rigs and hit it again Friday morning. Good day time beach.

This report has inspired me Chip! I partially have material on hand to start making some rigs. I have b 250lb and 400lb wire and some 3X 11/0 circle hooks. Gonna put an order for some heavier duty 3ways and barrel swivels. The ones I currently use my not be enough and I don’t want to find that out the hard way.

I have the Baja Special loaded with 80lb braid topped off with 80lb mono and the 6/0 loaded 100lb braid and topped off with 100lb mono. Will order some 200lb mono for rub leader. Even jerry rigged a bait release for the for the drone. Charging up the battery now and hopefully test it out tomorrow at the park near me. Will also order a couple of extra batteries to ensure I can get a few baits dropped. I’ve accepted there’s a chance the drone will take a dunking, but it’s collecting dust anyways!
