WFO macs at OB
« on: June 23, 2016, 12:24:45 AM »
Went out there per Binh and Mike. Got there about 6-7ish and left at 10:30 got 22 3-4 bait sized macs and left due to time and concern on freezer space.

Bagged 'em by 5's and the freezer is stuffed. Now for some good surf conditions.

Left Mike with some ice and leftover bait in the midst of the bite he probably had 20 himself and lots of room in the bucket left to fill.

You need to stock up on bait, get out there.

Well damn Jim!  Nicely done and I do need some fresh baits!  Were you close in on the "I" portion of the jetty or all the way down at the café and "T" section?
You can't catch them from your computer chair.

Left of the T casting out a slip bobber setup suspending shrimp ~6-7 feet down. When I left they were hitting everywhere on the T.

Was it crowded on the pier. My peoples like come out in droves when the bite is hot. ;)

I've seen it worse for crowds. More folks were on the ocean side.

Earlier in the day a little boy, probably 4-5, was having a blast playing pier hand and helping everybody land anything. Actually grabbed one of my rods when I got doubled up.

Mike was in a pack of people closer to the tower, I was practically by myself near the end. Didn't have terminal tackle to attach glow sticks but I was pretty full anyhow.

The heartbreaking thing walking out were the mounds of eel grass on the beach. Saw an eel grass "paddy" worth washing back and forth also.

Grunion were running and may have helped with the wide open bite.

I just do a driveby at O'side. If the rails aren't crowded, I don't bother trying. Like looking for birds when you are tuna fishing.

I left with half a bucket. Probably over 40 macks. Perfect sized ones too! Going again tonight to plunder.

By the time I drive out from east county, traffic, bait thawing, crowded parking, etc, I'm committed to dropping a line.

I know it's pretty common, but it always creeps me out when I see them.

That is why I cut them up on the sand. Don't see them, can't be grossed out ;)
