« on: March 20, 2016, 06:43:37 PM »

My boys and I are out again at the little bay. Got food, got fire. Already have had several taps and one nice clicker run. But it's early and we've just bagun.

I gotta ask, "What's up with the chain hanging off the rod belt?"  ???

My son had found a monster size hook attached to about 12" of chain. It was all rusty and looked like something from JAWS when those guys used roast for bait off that rickety pier. Hook must have been a 22/0 or bigger.

We ended up with a 36.5" Butterfly Ray. Tagged team between my youngest son, Carl and older son, Michael.

Beautiful hookset. Easy CPR. Taken on a mackerel half. This broke my son, Carl's dry streak. He believed he was jinxed. I disagreed but the fish made it difficult to disclaim it. It was just fishing, and nothing more.

The rest of the night was a steady spiral to dying. But a nice fire kept it comfortable.

3 to 4 hour session. One nice Butterfly. Every trip is getting better.

It was a good one. What's funny is that the boys tag teamed a beast that was in the 40-45" range some 3 years ago or so, off Moonlight during one of those massive negative tides.
This one was just gnawing on the bait. I went to check it and after 3-4 cranks, the rod loaded up.Then it was game time. I still need them to get onto a nice Bat and feel that power.
