My Chinese Braid (02-01-17)

Was not used last night during our (Binh and I) surf sesh, we did use mackerel though. Action was pretty slow except for the one solid bite I got. Pretty nice initial run with a little head shaking. Had me thinking I had a sub 40" bat ray. Glad I was wrong.





Not huge at just 63", but a legit grinner nonetheless  ;D Didn't bother to check on the sex, hard to tell in the pics. That was all she wrote. Some bites, but only one came to play. Now begins the SLOW ascent up the leader board ;)

Looks male to me, but hard to tell conclusively.

Reel is great! That little guy was no match for it. I'm hoping to hook into a big bat to give it a proper test. I did notice the drag range isn't that wide. Just pushed the star drag fwd just a bit during the fight and it gave me a bunch more drag. Loving the reel, but the rod is taking a little more getting used to. The long butt section is so foreign to me. I normally cut it down, but I left it stock.
