Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / First taste of Soup
« on: June 22, 2016, 12:05:42 PM »
Took advantage of the little two day window of good weather we had and headed out in search of some Toothy ones. The only bait i could find was the white Norwegian mackerel like Tom mentioned in his post . I picked up a couple friends and we headed out , got to the water around 6:30 only to find everybody and their mom on the beach getting away from the heat , it was frustrating but WELL WORTH IT , we got away from the crowds and started casting small jigs and crocs to try and hook the small stuff that were boiling around . Believe it or not the first fish was a walleye perch and a toad , soooo on my hook he went  ::) , half on mine (of course the head) half on my friends. The baits were soaking for an hour at least with not even a bump . Decided to recast everything and still try for bait , i casted the same walleye head out . After about another 30 minutes and stocking up on a few good baits (another walleye and macs) my rod got THUMPED BIG TIME , i threw everything down and picked my rod up , felt the fish just slowly swimming and buried the circle home , the area we are fishing is VERY Sketchy too much structure and grass so when we hook up its pretty much a tug of war with the reels locked down at maximum drag . So this beast took off at least 70 yards on 25lbs of drag , MAJOR shakes and tailslaps , very intense fight with multiple directional changes , it was EPIC , i love SOUPIES . After about 5-6 minutes of dragging this beast through a potential minefield and with a HUGE crowd behind me Sean grabs the tail and drags this 67" Soupie up on the sand for me ! Thanx Sean!

After a few pictures which all came out super weird , i released the beast ASAP . She puked out her stomach , which made me feel bad , but i really don't know what to do , or how to prevent this . Hopefully they survive ? she bit her stomach a few times ...
20 minutes later , after calming down (i was breathing weird lol ) I casted another walleye head out lol , a little smaller . Approximately 30 minutes later something picks it up and starts heading towards catalina , i set the hook and it starts running back now towards the beach , barely keeping up i gained tension , another 2-3 minutes she was on the sand as well, 50" walleye head hunting soupie.

Awesome night , it was VERY COOL pulling on these beauties , hopefully they are both doing well now !
Both fish were caught on an incoming High , full moon (or pretty darn close), and on Walleye head.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / LA COUNTY DOUBLE GRINNERS!
« on: June 06, 2016, 12:44:11 PM »
Howdy guys ! Me and Seanzy have been putting in a lot of time lately , you folks down south make us sick (in a good way) ! So inspired by all the crazy reports and action put up lately on this board , we've been on a SERIOUS mission with only one thing on our minds (LA COUNTY GRINNERS)!  Yesterday was an EPIC night! As USUAL Seanzy is the one that gets the first REAL take ,
Sets his circle in the perfect spot , and boom ! In no time Sean was rewarded with his first ever Soupie , and a pretty respectable model that fought VERY VERY NICE , with multiple long runs ! (55-65" being the closest measurement).
After all the excitement calmed down and Sean got another bait in the water , he was immediately on another fish which he lost just as fast as he hooked up because of his loose drag ... Bummer ... but ohhhh well we know they are here , and actively on the CHEW!
Next up was one of our friends that got bit instantly after recasting his bait , the fish comes to the surface and does a beastly thrash on the surface and starts peeling , i check his drag and it was tooooo lose , i knew the fish was going to pop off because i was sure the hook wasn't buried where it was supposed to be ... Shortly but surely that is exactly what happened .

Noooow , I'm sitting there all bummed because i can't get a bite for the life in me !!!! Just when i think about changing my bait , i see Seans rod go off again , Sean Buried the Hook GOOD and the tug of war was on , this thing was a BEAST it thrashed on the surface like crazy then peeled off a 100 yds like nothing , then the unthinkable happens , his line goes loose ... He reels up only to find out he lost the beast because of a BAD CRIMP !  ohhh well , can't win them all ...

It was about 1 am , I only had one big mac left and a couple dines. I decided i would cast the Giant head on my heavy setup , and the giant tail on my lighter setup . I get the baits in the water , and buckle up for the wait . We decided to give it 30 more minutes and bounce. About 10 minutes into our wait my heavy setup gets absolutely slammed ! I pick my rod up , reel in the slack , and the fish was on but swimming towards me , I Button down my drag on the fathom , and start reeling like a mad man , then KABOOM ! Big 7 thrashing on the surface ! Once i felt the weight on this girl i knew she was BIG ! She powered out about 100yds on her first run , and took a shorter run when she got close in . About a 5 minute battle and i have her close up , Seanzy goes in for the grab and we barely drag her a foot or so for unhooking and pics .100-105" of MEAN AND PISSED OFF 7! This fish was redemption for a smaller one i lost yesterday due to catching a giant kelp paddy.

Tight Lines!
PS-heres what a Black Seabass bite looks like !

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Intro / First report
« on: May 14, 2016, 12:16:25 AM »
Hey guys , I'm gonna try to keep this short. Ive discovered a new way of "relief" for the sickness I've had all my life .Thanx to a few friends on this VERY COOL site i finally got into long-rodding sharking whatever you guys call it about 2 months ago. Now my sickness has gone much worse as I've made my self some more memories of THE ONES that got away LOL (not mentioning some that didn't, ill get to that a lil later).
Thanx to Verne , Ron, Sean and some more cool guys , i got to feel what i really wanted setup wise, so i ended up buying a Penn Fathom 25n with a okuma longitude 12' H rated 20-40 and 3-8 oz. The sweet spot for my rod depending on the rig is 5-6oz in my opinion . i started off fishing with 300 yds of 65lb braid and as much 60 pound top shot i could fit . I learned my lessons quite quick , actually i was taught my lessons by some beasts. I respooled after being broken off multiple times, not only that because i think with heavier line the fish doesn't "die" in the wash , and it also shortens the fight specially on big rays by at least 5 minutes. Now i fish 300yds of 80lb braid to about 20ft of  80lb or 100lb mono , depending on what i have at hand.

My First few fish on the long rod were epic as i had no clue how much harder it is to pull in a 100lb plus animal maybe even 200lb plus to the sand on it... My first REAL catch was a 50" bat on this setup , thats when i was fishing 65 to 60 , and it Kicked my ass soo bad i was done for the night pretty much lol . Ive had 2 Leos on the setup so far biggest being lower 50" range , one shovel , a few bass , a sculpin , grass rockfish . i think thats about it . Heres a few pics 50" bat

Sean with a Lobster
My Shovel
My Biggest Leo so far on the long rod (and weirdest face in a pic).

Last but not Least ,probably the most noteworthy , this past Tuesday i landed myself a PB absolute beast bat , Sean was there and can definitely back me up , this thing was a monster... 57" bat
Im kind of bummed because i really wanted pics to testify for the size of this beast but my spaniard friend did otherwise ... so technically first post and a hall of fame post , but i don't have a pic to justify , welcome to another day in my life .

Thanx for reading , hope you enjoyed it , and hope to bump into some of you guys soon ;)
Until the next tide !
