Fished saturday morning with a couple old school surf fishing friends. Not many fish caught, but it was fun to catch up.
Stopped on the way home for a plate of huevos rancheros, and got all sleepy and lazy for the rest of the day.
Conditions were so nice after the last few weeks of high surf, I felt like I should take advantage of the opportunity, but was just unmotivated.
I tried to find someone to fish with, but no go. I finally decided to just get my lazy ass up and take a look.
My first stop looked ugly. High tide and lots of weeds on the beach and in the water. Not my idea of a fun solo trip, so I hopped back in the car and tried another location.
This one had weeds all over the beach, but the water looked pretty darn good, so I set up and got to fishing.
Within 10 minutes I had a quick rip. Just a tug and drop. I reeled in my bait and it looked perfect so I sent it back out. Before I got 15 feet to my chair, the rod went full bendo and the clicker was screaming. Decent fish. Short fight with some surface thrashing and tail slapping told me it was the right kind, but it came off in a wave so I never laid eyes on it.
Another bait, no love.
Third bait goes out, sets awhile and the rod goes off again. Same fight same surface action, but a much better result.
Crappy pic, but whatever.
You know the drill, bait up the last piece of my first mackerel and make my fifth cast of the night. I get a small tug, no clicker, so I make a bait check. Looks good enough so it goes back out.
And gets bit.
Looks like the same fish. Could be, who knows? Not much to tell one from another with.
So, by now I have been fishing 1 1/2 hours, made 6 casts, been bitten 4 times, hooked up 3, and landed 2. Gave it another hour for no more action.
Still very pleased with the evening.
By the way, their teeth are sharp. A little wiggle while getting the hook out stuck a tooth into the side of my finger.
No big deal, but the crowd freaked when they saw the blood.
Probably give it another look this evening if I don't get lazy.
