Glad you're getting out Jeremy, the doc said it will be several weeks before I should attempt walking on the sand.  Thank God for our boat and piers

Tide looked mediocre, but wanted to try c-rigging a fluke on a neap tide for halibut. Conditions were okay. Water was as sh!t stained as when I last saw it on Saturday inside. Wind in my face. Swell was little. Some kelp in the wash but bearable.

Started with a c-rig grub. New hooks arrived. Matzuo sickle baitholders in #6. Heavier gauge than I'm used to but sticky sharp and seem good quality. Isolating the one I used today in my tackle box to see if/when the finish corrodes from one trip. The sickle shape did seem to hold the grub in place a lot better.

Got a bite early. Slight nibble on the grub. Set the hook and whole rig gone, continuing from last week. Didn't get too worked up about it, but it's the nail in the coffin for at least my 10# spool of red label.

Kept it moving and wasn't getting bit on the grub. Tide was getting near peak so switched to the fluke. Within a few casts, I got a tentative bite as if I was fishing a perch grub. Gave it room, it took the room, missed the hook set. Brought it in and there was a little bite mark on the plastic inside the hook shank. Well, they like it. Don't know how I missed that fish though.

Every cast it felt like I was either catching onto kelp or dragging my hook through the sand. Maybe 15 casts in I felt like I hooked kelp and brought it in at a moderate pace. Got to the wash and a pancake lit up in the shallows and hopped off the fluke for a long distance release. Not the quality I was looking for but good sign!

Another 200 yards down the beach I walked by an older asian man with a Team Daiwa hat on. I was wearing my new Team Shimano vest. We made eye contact and wrestled each other to the ground. No no, I told him about the halibut, I wanted to ensure good diplomacy.

Checked my fluke hook after so many casts and found it had dulled out, presumably burying itself in the sand. It was a bass plastic worm hook, straight shank maybe 3/0. Switched to a 1/0 baitholder and the dragging feeling on the retrieve instantly went away.

No more bites. No more break offs! Retiring all the red label and using some 15 and 12 laying around, probably order some Shimano Mastiff 8# from work soon.

No, the company isn’t going anywhere, they have business units across the US, they just transitioned pretty much all the remaining IT positions to an outside company last year. Honestly, I believe it was in preparation to more downsizing that is coming. One of the perks of outsourcing and transitioning employees to an outside tech company is saving on severance for every employee they might eventually lay off. So far at least I’m still working, the commute just leaves a lot to be desired now. Will hang out at this new position for awhile to pad my resume with different IT exp while I monitor the job markets.

So is the company moving the work out of state?

Kalifornia is a sh!tshow and very expensive to do business in.

Several friends in the Kommunist state have experienced the same thing and left.

Hopefully you land on your feet.

P.S. Stay out of Arizona, we have enough of you Kalifornia motherf@ckers here.

All I'm saying is that it would've made a sick hat....

Or coyote food.

Not much talent you have to get so many bites and land very few fish.

Put a stinger hook in the tail, that will fix those short biting SOBs.

Oomph. I’ve been dealing with a similar story over here as well Tom, so I feel ya.

Last June, my company of 18 years decided to outsource 330 IT positions. I found out about a month ago, that my position was going to downsized. I only found out early because my new outsource company had a IT position that needed filled for a different project. So Luckily, I was able to switch to this new project. Downside is now I have a 55 mile commute to/from work instead of a 2 mile one. It’s taking some getting used to an extra 2.5 hours of commuting everyday, but at least I’m still getting paid and have my benefits and some time to continue looking for a closer job. I’m also considering trying to move out of this “sh!t show” state and move closer to my family in PA.

Been a rough month or so with horrible anxiety attacks about being unemployed.

Woof. That sucks. Hope it’s enough time to find the next and hopefully better thing. Seems like this job has been a sh!t show start to finish.

Good luck on the muck trout.

I asked my boss about if I should be coming in with the "Rona" or not since all of the guidance from our company seemed to be out of date.  His response was "I'll set up a meeting for us about it" and I never got a meeting request.  I masked up and went in just to get shoveled out and told to go home.  I get home to get on my computer about the big company announcement... and.... They are shutting our TRD site down.  That means I only have 3 months, 6 months or possibly a year left.  I won't know until later this week.

I was going to put up a third and final post right now, but I may just go down to the puddles, grab a pint, and Blow the "Rona" out in the fresh air while waiting for a whisker Trout to bite.

I'll get up the finale later today.  The last 3 days have been 1980's Gym Class Dodge Ball...
