My boys and I kept the skunk away, Saturday evening. The excellent conditions prediction was true. Beautiful conditions. Absolutely no Salad. North Cardiff Reef.
Fished from 630 to 10. Action started around 8.
My son, Carl, caught a 2' wide Butterfly Ray on a mackerel. That is his third in his young fishing career. He was stoked and it put up a bit of a tussel.
Then the tractor show began. Consistent hits led to lots of bait checking. After one very nice hit, had to hand hold until the rod loaded up and handed it off to my son, Micheal. The little shovel thought it was much bigger. Gave some good tugs, but all too small. Next up, a larger model which I got to fight. Some moving around on the beach got the blood going. Actually, all the critters fought very well considering their size. They made runs up and down the beach, breifly that they were.
Nights total was a couple shovels and a Butterfly. Butterfly on Mac and Shovels on double squid.
I don't think my baits were getting out far enough. But....
we got some fish in the real surf.
Is parking always a pain in area?
