 After another Doctor Appointment this morning in Ranch Bernardo, I had some free time on my hands so I ventured up to San Marcos and went into Turner's I have been looking to up my game for next Spring and with all the supply issues I decided to picked up a new reel. They didn't have the 300 in right hand so I got the 400 Komodo  ( 463P ) Spooled it with 50Lb.  braid and left room for some top shot. From what I have seen the reel is solid and can handle anything I will be chasing. Probably going to pair it with an 8' rod, just not sure which one just yet. Any suggestions are welcomed and any feedback on the reel if anyone has one would be helpful as well. Still doing homework to step into the Big Leagues and gain some knowledge for landing bigger fish (eventually)

That reel is a tank, you won’t regret it. I have a 364 that I love and I had a 463 for a minute but it was kind of redundant in my arsenal. I believe a prototype 463 caught the world record broomtail grouper down in Baja a couple years back.

As Jeremy said, Beast of a reel. I have two And use them to cast big swimbaits, irons, and big hard baits.

That's a perfect reel for the new boat.

Oh! As far as rod suggestions. I think you should look into an 8’ conventional rod for it like an Okuma PCH Heavy or an 8’ Shimano Tallus H. If you can’t find those I think Turners might have a similar rod in a Californian. I’d try to stick with rods around 20-50 in line weight rating.

Thanks, guys. Turner's suggested that rod in the 20-50 Lb. range as well. Can't wait to put it to good use

I have the Citrix which is a step below that one and love it, except that it's finally starting to squeal like a pig when I cast it.  I should have went for the Komodo instead.

IMO, the Komodo is the best of the low profile reels. Stainless steel internals. Strong drags. I wish I could get used to casting them. I prefer round reels in general, but especially for throwing irons. Thumbs up for the Komodo!
