: Solo at the Secret Spot 3/4/17
: sasquatch March 05, 2017, 04:26:42 AM
Decided to skip the great catfish adventure this morning so I didn't get bored soaking bait for nothing. Surf looked too promising and I didn't want to lose motivation.

Headed down to a spot I like to fish on my own. Got lucky, it wasn't 3 feet deep in weeds.

Set up and did the bait-rebait for a couple hours.

Got a slow rip. The kind that usually signals a huge clump of weeds. Got to my rod just in time for it to speed up, then stop completely. Reeled in nothing but a scrap of skin from my bait.

Thankfully it lifted my spirits and pushed some of my dark thoughts away.

The next bite was when I was thinking about leaving. I walked away to take a leak and mid way through saw my rod bouncing. My fishing rod.

Finished my business, hitched up my waders and quickly made it to my still bouncing rod. No clicker, no bend. Thought I had a bass.

Fought that sucker all the way in. Not really fight, but drag with some resistance. I could feel the signs of a small seven.

Then, for no reason, it just came off. Left me with a shredded leader, so I stand by my assessment of small seven.

Soaked another bait. My thoughts turned unpleasant and I decided I needed some company. I set the timer and started packing.

Thinking my time was nearly up, I stood near my rod, ready to reel in. Then it happened. Another bite. Knew it was a seven, but again, not a big one.

Got this one to shore and landed it.

Not a big guy, 74", but still gets me a little closer to my goal.

Sorry Dave, I forgot my tripod.

And most of the time the shark was like a donut so a tape shot was a pain.

Decided to Call it for the night. Have to get up early to make it to the lake.

One closer to taking the lead! I see the only way you take the lead is by more solo sessions.  ;)

I usually just pee right next to my spike and kick sand over it.

Nice 7, love the donut shot.

And I was on daughter-sitting duty last night...

Well done Steve and way to creep one fish closer to me.  At this Rate, Ron might pass me up this year!

Looks like the trick to a successful solo is to take a leak and watch your rod bounce  ;D ;D
