I gave it a shot last night for a couple hours and nothin.
Water was cool but not cold, still not ideal though.
I got to thinkin though...
Ive fished this private housing lake on and off for about ten yrs now.
When i first started fishing the place the average cat was about 3 to 6 lbs. Now the average is about 8-11 lbs. Occasionally a bigger one comes through.
Ive fished a bunch of different spots and these cats are all consistent in this size range. Ive come to the conclusion that these are schoolies (the ones roaming).
Without doing any research i believe the much larger models aren't moving around so much and are hangin in one spot for the most part.
Ive talked to the residents and have a couple tell me they've got em in the 30lb range.
This place is a concrete pit and there is absolutely no structure.
My biggest out of here was a 14.8 and ive only fished that particular spot once for maybe 20 minutes. There happens to be a large tree that hangs high up over the water.
BOOM! Then it hit me. Fallen branches = structure.
For that 14.8 , i just happened to be soaking right where some fallen branches would have landed.
I pretty excited to hit the spot again and do feel there will be more larger models here.
I pulled up google earth and there is one other spot that has a large over hanging tree. Gonna try that spot as well.
Im feelin pretty good about this and think there will be some nicer models in the near future.
You guys better bring your A game
