Our family beach house has a creek running behind it the leads to the ocean.

Theres always mullet back there and lots of them.

Ive tried peas, cheese, bread, dog food , mussels , lunch meat and a couple other things i cant think of.

Id really like to get one, they are literally 20ft from our back door.

Any help is appreciated.

Saw this on another site:

(Bill Varney)

A couple of weeks ago I found that my storage facility "neighbor" had broken through our adjoining wall and stolen every rod and reel I've ever owned. Besides the fact that it was a $15,000 loss much of what was taken had great sentimental value to me. My early rods were hand made with the help of my Dad. And that he passed just a couple of years ago it was one of the few things I had to remember him. As you may imagine, I've been very upset and it's just today that I can speak about this.

Black Sabre 865 with a Turks head and the label "Made by Mike's Custom Tackle, Lakewood CAen though they know who it is, have a video and know where he lives that in CA property crimes are not investigated or prosecuted.

If you would be good enough to let me know if you see my rigs for sale I'd very much appreciate it. Here is a list of the missing items:

10 Cousins rods, models 852, 901, 905. Some of these have my name on them, others which were the prototypes do not.

Black Sabre 865 with a turks head and the label "Made by Mike's Custom Tackle, Lakewood CA

Hand made custom wrapped sabre rods with a label "Made by Bill Varney, wrapped by Jerry's Tackle Box

2 CalStar rods

Various Lamiglas rods, trout rods, etc.

Reels:
2 new Penn 50 wides, new and in the box
15 Shimano Sedona or Sahara spinning reels
2 Penn Battle II Reels
5 Shimano Corrrados
Shimano TLD 20 2 speeds (2)
Shimano TLD 10 and 20 single speed
Penn Jigmaster 500's
and a bunch of other rods and reels I can't remember now....

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Dock hopping 12/1
« on: December 01, 2018, 07:19:21 PM »
Went to the local docks with the gf.

I was only allowed to fish for 2 hours right before (sunset) the magic hour.

Threw the umbrella the whole time and went 3 for 3.

General Board / Destroyed back
« on: October 10, 2018, 12:08:27 PM »

Your looking at the curve of my spine from front to back. Or visa verse...

The pain from my scoliosis is now unbearable.  Ive got a high tolerance for pain and this just effing sucks.

On work restrictions now and am gona see my primary doc in a couple hours.

All i can think about is if im gona be able to fish comfortably in the future. It already sucks now but just dont want to be any worse.

My life is pretty simple:

Work cuz i have to
Family
Girlfriend
And Fishing

Take away fishing and Fu*k my life...

Pretty stressed out over all this and trying to think positive.

Just venting here i guess.

Rod Building / Heat shrink (finished product)
« on: September 11, 2018, 10:31:47 AM »
Is it okay to put the X wrap tubing over the cork tape?

Or would it be best to remove the tape first?

What size tubing for a 8ft 30-60 calstar grafighter?

Would i cut the tubing to the exact length of the handle or longer? Not sure if it shrinks in the up and down direction as well?

Blow dryer or flame for the job?

Sorry for all the questions.

Tackle Talk / Rod recommendations
« on: September 10, 2018, 10:55:32 AM »
This is one of the reels i recently ordered and am already looking for a rod for it.

http://www.pennfishing.com/penn-reels-conventional-reels-penn-fathom/penn-fathom-lever-drag/1422246.html

MONO CAPACITY YD 480/40 355/50 315/60
BRAID CAPACITY YD 995/65 860/80 735/100
MAX DRAG 40lb
GEAR RATIO7.1:1

Im thinkin:

https://www.thelongfin.com/calstar-grafighter-bait-jig-rods.html

Model: GFGR 700H | 7' Extra Fast Heavy Action Jig/Bait Rod | 30-80lb Line

Or

Model: GFGR 700XH | 7' Extra Fast Extra Heavy Jig/Bait Rod | 40-100lb Line

What do you guys think??

Edit

This would be primarily for heavier offshore.
Will probably back it with 100lb braid and run an 80lb to 100lb top shots.

Need to build up my 2 day plus arsenal..

Freshwater Shore Fishing Reports / 9/7 cats

On board with an 11.5 lb so far.... pics later

Edit

Just got a 5.4lber, didnt bother takin a pic...

Edit

And now a big boy... ill have the pics up tomorrow, we will play the "guess the weight "game..

Full edit:

Got off work at 2:30, the plan was to take a nap and re charge the batteries which didn't happen. I've been so jacked up on catfish lately that I couldn't shut off the brain. This usually only happens when it comes to tuna.

Well first mack chunk hit the water just before 10pm in the newer spot. I read that bigger cats will hang out together. I wasn't hooking Giants in the previous spots I've been fishing over the years so felt it was time to move and find them.

40 min passed and I was thinking it was gona be a slow night. Reeled in one rod to put on a fresh chunk when I heard the clicker going off. Put it in gear and the fun began. After a brief tug-o-war and solo net job this 11.5 hits the grass.

Ended up being a perfect hook set right through the eye ball and was significantly fatter than the other recent sticks I've been getting.

The 5.4 followed which was whatever. For some reason you rarely see them that small here.

Next up was the better model. As soon as I put the reel in gear I knew I had something good. I kept the reel in the Strike position the whole time which was about 8lbs of drag. Never felt the need to put any additional pressure on him. I got a few good runs and some total explosions on the surface before he came to net. This thing was a total fat ass and i was really suprised by the power of this thing. Pics dont do it justice.

Weight guessing game if anyone wants to play. I'll put the weight up this evening before I go out tonight and do it again. I so badly want a 20 plus and that's the ultimate goal. There are some true Giants in here...

Freshwater Shore Fishing Reports / Catfish 7.28
« on: July 29, 2018, 12:54:04 PM »
Today was the girlfriends day to do what she wanted. I talked her into going fishing, all it costed me was breakfast at ihop.

Bait prep

We headed out about an hour after dark.

Set up 2 rods with fly lined macks. Spoke with the ranger who confirmed there are some serious channels in here, biggest one caught weighing in at42 lbs.

An hour passed and the rod i had set up for the gf did a solid bendo. I told her to grab it which she she refused and told me to. I did so and brought in this decent kitty.

Its official, I now have the catfish bug again. Can't wait to get out again.

My buddy and i are competing in the 2 day championship event for the saltwater bass series in two weeks out of dana landing. (Mission bay)

We will be staying over night there since it wouldnt make sense to drive back to oc.

Are there any of those public showers like they have at the beach anywhere near by?
