Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / Long rod solo sesh 3/16
« on: March 17, 2015, 11:13:05 AM »
The gf said go fishing so I said ok.

Loaded up the truck and off I went.

Got to the sand and did the mile walk to the spot.

Kelp was minimal but a ton of grass.

Got set up and sent out a mack.

No bites the first couple hours.

Once it was completely dark I got picked up.

Put it in gear and felt the tail slaps on my line.

Turned the head lamp on and saw his head surface way out there.

Got him to the skinny and grabbed his tail.

After a couple self pics on the tripod I put him back in the water. Followed him for a bit to make sure he was off ok.

Taped out at 85"

Packed up after that and went to the campgrounds.

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / 7gill 3/6

Decided to fish a new spot I felt would be good.

Got to the sand and did a mile walk and set up.

Conditions were nice, just a bit of eel grass floating around.

Sent out a mack.

No bites for a while so I re applied the fresh bait now and then.

Got picked up and shortly into it I knew what it was :)

Got it to the skinny to see him thrashing around violently.

Put my rod under my arm and drug him up the beach.

Taped out at 84"

Put him back into the water and he swam straight out to sea.

(Are you guys having a hard time seeing the pics? They came out pretty dark on my screen.)

Salt Water Shore Fishing Reports / VC heartbreak 3/6
« on: March 06, 2015, 12:30:23 PM »
Gona make this one short.

Same spot, same bait, same conditions.

Got picked up, very lazy runs with minor head shakes . I knew exactly what I had on, it was a heavy weight too.

Got it to the skinny and rod goes limp with slack flying in my face. Phuck >:(
Never did see it but know for a fact it was a bruiser 7.

I checked the line where the break off point was, was a clean cut.

I usually run a 6 foot wire leader but for this spot I have to wade out so it's an uncomfortably 2 foot length.

After that I dropped my reel in the sand.
Also had a dog run by and eat 2 of my maks.
Also had 2 punk teenagers attempt to go through my back pack while I was relieving myself. had some words with them and sent them on their way. Told their friend to pick up their beer cans as well.

It's been a while since I've had heartbreak but it happens to the best of us.

Will be out doing it again today.

Hit the sand lookin for another 7gill.

Conditions were absolutely flawless and I had high hopes.

Fished the incoming from sunset to a few hours after dark.

Sent out some fresh maks.

About an hour in I got picked up.

felt the head shakes so I knew it was the right kind.

Got it too the skinny and got my first look at it.

I was pretty disappointed lol.

Not the right kind but she was nice and feisty.

The 12/0 demon circle did its job. Got her in the corner of the mouth and it came out the side of her face. Very minimal damage and she swam off strong.

That was all I got. I still look at it that I struck out since I did not get the targeted species.

Im out here a few more days so ill be putting in more work.

Hit the sand at with a cooler full of macs.

Got picked up right at sunset, a decent run that resulted in a dropped bait. Was deffinately a bat.

Got picked up again once it was dark. After a fun fight I put this on the sand

Tape shot didn't come out well but it went 55" with the tape pulled tight across the back.

Pics came out like crap but no biggie, not a PB anyway.

Called it quits at 9pm

Fishing Talk / A couple thresher questions
« on: February 11, 2015, 04:23:04 PM »
I know of 3 of you on here that have caught them.

I'm dying to get one and just had a couple questions.

I believe they are more active in summer and mostly feed in the morning.

I was told smaller hooks for them, maybe a 7/0 or 8/0??

I read somewhere they are line shy and to use mono leader. What lb. would you guys recommend ?

Hit the 7gill spot last night.

Fished the incoming with fresh perch.

Conditions were horrible, the waves were up and a ton of kelp. Had to constantly reel in and remove it.

I've been staying at the campgrounds and will be here a few more days working the spot.

If anyone is gona be there let me know 626.383.1667
