: PCS Show 2024
: jrodda February 13, 2024, 09:12:05 AM
I seem to have a hard time remembering these kinds of events or having the time to get to them, but hopefully I will make this one. Seems like a great lineup. Anyone else planning on going? It’s March 7-10.

I should get up there one of these days, but I usually stick to the local events.  Bart Hall this week.

It always puzzles me why the SD show is generally the smallest one.  Especially since we are in the Mecca for the Southwest region.

I know where to find you at DATD now, and I know you have some cash stowed away for that one vendor!  LOL

I shall once again save the heaviest item for you so I don't have to buy it.

I’ll be working at the deckhand sports booth. Come say hi and grab a beer!

Just got back from the show. If you can offset $37 from parking/entrance it might be worth it. Exceeded my $5 budget but met some great people and took notes at a few seminars. Make sure to swing by the Vague Rods booth and say happy birthday to Tiffany. Ask to see the pirate weave rod, absolute work of art. Heard of some new drops coming at the PCS Festival. Guess I'll have to budget another "$5".

Well, I exceeded my $5 budget again... this time at the PCS Fest.

But it's absolutely worth it, GO! $12 parking, $20 to get in, free for active military. I rolled in half an hour after opening and the lines to get in had just died down. Basically just walked on in.

Beer not on sale, but Salty Crew were serving theirs free when I passed by their booth towards the end. Upped my CCA California membership and apparently I'm in the Star Tournament now. Sat in on a couple seminars. Missed a couple more. Too much tackle I could of splurged on, it's almost like the good old days at FHLB. But I was mostly there to meet people and see products I'll get my hands on later this year.

Kids, grand kids, go! They have fishing, snakes, fishing simulator,  a gyotaku guy who'll help them make fish print shirts. Too many stickers to collect. Hoping to bring the entire family next year.

Met up with Chris at the Deckhand Sports booth behind the GIANT Freeman, good seeing you again! The kill bags are awesome and the current deals are definitely attractive. Working on getting the old lady into stepping up her cooler bag game. If I have to get the kids to send the current ones to submission I will! Good luck on the raffles today.

Tom and Sasquatch, Bill Batson gave you a shout out. There were a few rod building celebrities in house that flew in unexpectedly. Good to put a face to their work that I've only seen online. I ended up at the 2nd annual Rod Builders Reception afterwards ( I missed last year ). $50 gets you in. You get that back in a goody bag with American Tackle guides, tools, open bar, taco buffet, and a huge raffle. Thanks to Bill Falconer from Angler's Resource ( Fuji North America ) for donating my winning prize and to Casey ( Voodoo Rods ) for trading me my losing ticket for his winning one haha. Gotta love the rod building community.

Took a wrong turn and drove the 73 back home. Got flashed by the camera because no Fast Trak. When I got home I found out I get 5 days to pay my toll before it turns into a ticket. A quick visit to thetollroads website, entered my license plate #, and $9.18 later I'm good. Just a heads up if you make the same mistake.

Thanks for the show report. I'm contemplating taking the boat out tomorrow morning, not quite sure yet all things considered. I have a couple people to visit at the show, and I don't neeeeed anything, but really want to look at the RPM 18' cat, talk to the builder, and soak the rest in.

73 is no joke these days. I ended up on it for just 1 exit and got billed $6 with fast trak. I recall not long ago it was $3 each way...

Spent the day there today, talked to Chris and picked up a new Kill Bag and a few shirts as well as some good BBQ Sauces, Lots to see and just a cool vibe all around. Traffic sucked as usual from San Clemente to Oceanside but we made it home. Time to get the Cyclops wet.

I had a blast. We set up on Tuesday then went fishing Wednesday. Nothing but snot sticks to report.
Thursday was an older crowd. Lots of boat owners, business owners etc. making connections and big purchases.
Friday was a little younger crowd. Majority of people seemed to be mid 30’s to 40’s and there to network and take advantage of show deals. I had a few people call me by “Lowprofile” from BD and couldn’t tell you who they were but everyone was friendly.

Saturday was quite the show. Tons of families with kids, dogs, pushing grandparents in wheel chairs and quite a bit of eye candy.

The negotiators were also out in force that day which made it super entertaining. We were throwing in rod wraps, rod covers and beers with purchases and apparently it wasn’t enough.

Sunday was less crowded but still a full house. Everyone was worn out by Sunday and thankful the show closed at 5.

I met the Batson Family and they offered to put me on the team. Super cool opportunity and really excited about that.

Nick Morris from Morris lures Hawaii was on deck. Really cool to meet the guy who made the majority of the lures I used while in Japan. Learned a lot talking to him.

Joe from RAP systems donated a 0 degree railer bar to my inflatable shenanigans. Big plans for that.

Britney picked up a beautiful purple jig stick wrapped by Jon Tac with Pura pesca and he threw in some swag for us. Her Tuna hunt begins now. He anlso insisted we come catch East coast bluefin with him so I need to start saving for a trip.

The BBQ place always had a 20+ mins line and was always out of brisket….

Finally met Bill Depriest in person. Very brief interactions but super nice guy… very busy

Met Ali from BD. That man is also very busy and has 1,001 things on his mind at once.

Billy K stopped by the booth and ended up talking to him like we’d known each other for years when it was only minutes. Very easy going and nice guy.

Tim, it was good seeing you and hope that bag treats you well!
Len, also good to see you after all the years. We need to do some seabass fishing soon.

Sounds like you had a great show!  Very cool that Bill brought you on board also.  I've known those guys for 25 years and they never wavered from being some of the best people around as well as in the industry!
