Potential El Nino again?
« on: February 16, 2017, 05:25:42 PM »
Can we really go back-to-back-to-back?? 2015 the insane tuna, Marlin, Ono fishing ... 2016 the massive BlueFin being caught. What would a third term warm trend look like?
OMG I need to get my boat fixed.

Some things I've read recently: (source - weather underground blogs)

Today's update from the Aussies (2/16/17)

Increased chance of El Niņo by spring

The El Niņo-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is currently neutral. International models suggest this is likely to continue through the southern autumn. All but one model indicates a steady warming in the central tropical Pacific Ocean over the next six months. Five models suggest El Niņo thresholds may be reached by July 2017; however, model accuracy at this time of year is generally low. Therefore ENSO-neutral and El Niņo are, at this stage, considered possible, with La Niņa very unlikely for the second half of 2017.

Unfortunately our records only go back to 1880 but this is for sure uncharted territory. The fact that we had a Super El-Nino in early 2016 switched to weak La-Nina and now to El-Nino in 2017 is crazy!

I mean 1C across Nino 3.4 by late March into April already folks that's near Moderate El-Nino strength in just a matter of weeks from now.

Well if it is I hope we see some bigger critters in the surf. Possible roosters, jack creval, triple tail, a shot at hammers again.

Dig out the 9/0, I'll join you.  The average size I seen on the kayak and spear boards was 8-9ft. I think they are smooth hammers, not sure how they compare to great hammers but I'd be scared to hook one on a 4/0.

Those HB kooks just did something that I don't think has ever been done ;D

But here's the thing, it's drawing a lot of attention. They pulled the pics and video because of it. We're going to have to be cool, or somebody is going to spoil this for everybody. It works, but it's going to be up to us not to spoil it. Maybe Tom can put up an Easter Egg to a secret forum devoted to this activity, but until then I suggest we keep this on the down low 8)

What did they get?  I can make a secret forum for a special group of members that no one can see except the people who are given privilege.  Tax Man?  Hammer?

Sounds Taxi-like ...

Which site? Was it Tivo again?

edit: holy crap. One response said 15ft? Jeez. Yeah I wouldn't post up GSWs anymore either if I were those guys.

edit #2 - found the pics on his photo bucket account. I won't post here, but just go to one of his posts with pictures and you'll get access. Good size shark. I don't think 15ft ... more like 10 ... but still a big girl.

Agreed. My biggest problem with them posting their GWS reports up is that it looks like they're targeting them rather than having them as an incidental catch. It is pretty hard to keep something like that a secret though.

A secret grinner forum seems like a must now as my drone is ready for deployment.
